Is Sanches a future bust?/ Questions on Sanchez Some open ended questions on Sanchez for anyone here that feels they might be able to shed some light on either side of the "is he or isn't he a franchise QB question. I have read several posters say that Sanchez is a NFL bust in waiting, and not the kind found at the HOF. My question is what makes him a sure bust? I have read so many good things about him, smart, mature, dedicated, loves the game if football, strong arm, accurate arm, good pocket presence and feel for the game, aware of pass rush, top notch teammate, quick reads, quick release, team leader, leader in the locker room etc. On the other side of the coin..... The big knocks on Sanchez seems to be #1, his experience level, because he only started one year....To me that is something that is easily remedied, its about have we seen ENOUGH to really evaluate him accuratly. And #2, The superior talent he had around him as compared to the competition he played, i.e. his WR's being WIDE WIDE open, things he won't see often in the NFL...Seems to me if he is quick and accurate then he can still hit his WR's even with less room for error, Thoughts?? Is his arm strength in question by some here? How does he compare to say a Matt Leinert in that dept. or in general for that matter. Apparently even as a one year starter, Sanchezes ability to read a defense quickly and make the right throw time in time out is rare. Is it, that big of an asset? Thoughts? Bottome line, is this guy special, does he have the instincts, feel for the game, accuracy etc etc to be special? All rights reserved, void where prohibited, batteries not included, some assembly required, add water makes its own gravy.
I think he will be a VERY solid player... Experience you can get through time but talent and intangibles either are there or aren't. And I think he has the head and the arm to be a succesful QB in this league.
According to Jets fans every franchise QB prospect is going to be a bust. Sanchez has all the skills it takes to become a top notch QB at the next level.
I don't see how people can rail Sanchez for his inexperience when Cassel just got franchised and traded after not starting since high school. If he has the talent, he has the talent. Brady didn't start at Michigan full-time and he turned out ok as well
and you know this how?? ESPN? ESPNU?.. and don't generalize and say every Jets fan blah blah blah.. cause the only people making stupid comments like that.. are those who know as much football as you do..
POTENTIAL BUST, OK?? I kind of thought that was a given. Its all about speculation at this point and THAT WAS THE POINT.
I am interested in the opinions of NY Jets fans here at GangGreen.com, thats why I asked posters here on this board their opinions.
I gave you my opinion, the post you quoted was not directed at you. I believe Sanchez has all the skills it takes to become a top notch QB at the next level. He has a strong enough arm, excellent intangibles and leadership qualities. The only knock on him right now is his experience which I don't see as a big issue, the team that drafts him cannot expect him to be ready to become the starter right out of the gate.
Every College Quaterback has bust potential. I think what seperates him from the masses is his work ethic.
I would say that I would prefer someone with more starting experience from a program that wasn't so overwhelmingly better than the rest of college football. I'm extremely impressed with his bowl game performance and his raw numbers but then that's been the case with every USC prospect in the past decade. Of late, we've seen LenDale White with all the tools become an overweight version of the overrated Eddie George. We've seen Dwayne Jarrett do nothing and be called out by his teammates. Mike Williams, an underwhelming Reggie Bush...the list goes on and on. Outside of Palmer and Polamalu, USC has shown that its players are more the beneficiaries of the whole squad's talent and athleticism than their own individual ability. I would certainly prefer Sanchez to Josh Freeman or anyone not named Matt Stafford. I am extremely impressed with Nate Davis being so successful at Ball State in a crumby weather conference after losing his leading receiver to a career ending injury, and his coaching pedigree is as good as it gets. I think we can win with Kellen Clemens, a stout defense, and a power running game. If anything, we could use a downfield threat that opens it up over the middle for Keller and a playbook that utilizes Leon Washington's skills a bit more. The Giants won a Super Bowl while Eli Manning carried a 56 completion percentage and 23-20 TD/INT. I don't think a 73 QB rating is too much to expect of Clemens or Ratliff with a solid running game and an addition at receiver. It's not exciting, but it's how football games are won. At the end of the day, I'm not going to lose it if the Jets don't draft a quarterback. Truthfully, I'd like to see us make an early investment in running back, with a 30 plus holdout and Leon angling for an extension. -X-
I like him more than Stafford. I like his attitude, I like the community work he has done, he seems like a character guy that loves the game. As much as I want to see what we have on the roster, my personal feeling is that if he is there at 10, we have to inquire as to how much it will cost us to get there. I dont know what that price tag would be. Our 17 and 2 3's? I genuinely dont have an idea as to what that would cost. I dont think he will be a bust to answer the original question, but who am I? who are any of us to be in a more informed opinion than people who get paid to answer that question. I do know that I would love to roll the dice with a Sanchez pick and seeing him in the green and white would be evry exciting.
I do as well. I think he is better at reading a defense and taking what they give him. Stafford hs the bigger arm, but Sanchez's is more then adaquate for the NFL. Yes, he's only started 11 games, but those 11 games showcased some very good skills, both physical and mental, at the QB position and the ability to win a big game.
