Kind of small for it but they are going to have to experiment if they are going to keep mo rich and williams on the field together as much as possible
Scared as hell about the loss of Snacks and preseason really has only increased that concern. Bowles is a defensive mastermind however so hopefully he can figure it out. Running up the middle is a major hole I can possibly see us being exposed with.
Did you see him toss the RB out of the way on his last sack. Hahahah The first sack I think he was 3tech. The second one possibly the same. They both came on four man fronts I think and he was inside.
That was funny as hell. Poor little guy never had a chance. Kris Jenkins used to do shit like that to linemen.
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-...lliams-sacks-Colt-McCoy-for-a-loss-of-9-yards Even if we end up giving a little bit more on the ground, a much improved pass rush will be well worth it. I suspect us to be a bit more vulnerable up the middle, but we will be much better to the outside with the increased speed and athleticism to the outside linebackers and better tackling (hopefully) from the inside backers. Addition by subtraction with Demario Davis and his horrible angles gone. Henderson is a sound tackle and Darron Lee has looked like an animal of a rover with the amount of ground he can cover. I suspect he could struggle with possibly overrunning plays or maybe his tackling, but that can still turn into somewhat of a positive as a player getting to the ball that quickly slows the ball carrier down to let the rest of the troops rally to the ball. Richardson, Williams, Pryor and Lee are all no-quit players whom hustle to the ball at all costs. This is going to be a fun defense to watch. It's built differently than the Seahawks obviously, but the speed at inside linebacker & strong safety is somewhat reminiscent of Chancellor and Bobby Wagner.
Exactly. Having both Wilkerson & Richardson as DE's with Williams in the middle makes sense in terms of having a nasty pass rush. Although not his main duty/job but Damon Harrison was awful getting after the quarterback (1.5 career sacks). Williams on obvious pass downs/situations will become a QB's nightmare while plowing right through the middle. The 3-4 NT position is one of the most important defensive roles in all of football but at the end of the day Leonard Williams is just too versatile to label as a NT. He's able to play dominant throughout the entire D-Line. He's not only able to play both DE positions within either or of a 4-3 or 3-4 set but also able to play inside within the middle as a DT in a 4-3 and/or NT in a 3-4 scheme. G.M Mike Maccagnan & H.C Todd Bowles walked away with a cornerstone defensive lineman during last years draft. Williams can feast anywhere within the trenches.
McLendon and Simon will rotate in at NT as well...it's just a way to get Williams in there...he's too talented to waste chilling next to Bowles on the sideline...
Not really worried about passing downs, though the fear of being gashed on 3rd and long on a draw should be a slight concern. Simon has flashed a few times in the past, but hasn't shown me much on pre season. Don't think he is ready to be that guy yet. McClendon on paper looks like he could do solid. Just hope he stays healthy, I see a glaring hole if he goes down. We may need to go after another run stuffer if someone solid gets cut. Jenkins was my favorite players then snacks, I hope McClendon can step into that roll.
No doubt but Leonard Williams had a big role for us as only a rookie last year. Was in on 76.9% of our defensive snaps compared to Wilkerson (89.3%), Richardson (58.9%) and Harrison (53.8%). I don't think we'll have to worry too much about Williams being alongside Bowles on the sidelines this year, especially with Wilkerson returning from a broken leg as well as Harrison's departure. If anything I'm expecting a 2nd year Leonard to play about 82%-85% of our defensive snaps this up coming season. I do love the idea of Williams at either 3-4 NT or 4-3 DT during obvious pass rushing situations for added pressure up the middle. Although in reality we have 3 versatile defensive lineman in which can all play anywhere on the D-Line in Wilkerson, Williams & Richardson. A great problem/luxury to have at that.
Most teams traditionally hide their weakest lineman at center. You put a dynamic young player like Williams in front of them its a huge mismatch. I think its an awesome idea to play him there. Lots of teams out there in today's NFL spreading teams out and setting up the run with the passing game. With a mismatch in the middle like that it opens up a lot in pass rush and considering its more like 60%-40% pass to run its advantage Jets. Either Williams will blow by the center or they'll have to double team him with the guard. That will open up opportunities in blitzing up the middle... in addition to having Wilkerson/Richardson on the outside.
One of my favorite Jets of all time.. he press conference's were hilarious. "Gotta go eat!" Meet him once and he was just as funny in person. Too bad he's knees just couldn't hold up anymore. If we had him vs. Pitt in 2010/11 I think the first half goes very different defensively. Just conjecture obviously.
I share your concern. Haven't seen McClendon play yet, but pretty sure Simon isn't the answer at NT based on what I've seen so far.
He played much better against Washington. http://www.ganggreennation.com/2016/8/22/12582846/deon-simon-flashed-for-jets-against-washington I hope Simon can be a good player for us or at-least provide good depth. Looks like he has excellent awareness around the ball.
I'll try to keep an open mind but he was handled pretty good vs.Jags. I didn't see the second half of the Skins game but saw that he had a good stop in the first half.
Eh first preseason game, gotta work out the kinks and such. We shall see this year if he gets plenty of reps. I didn't see much of the Redskins game either, but good to see him make some plays. Gotta hope for the best.
