In the presser, Mangini said it was his foot. It's a shame he can't stay healthy. Any chance he gets cut if his test results say he'll be out for most of/all of the season?
If he's out again, we won't be resigned. He's becoming a sad lost cause. He had potential. Too bad. Go Lowery!
He was a good return guy but not much more than that. To be truthful I'll be glad if he's finally replaced because I think the Jets can use the roster spot on a better defender and I hated seeing him on the field on defense.
so this must be the i hate justin miller thread. did he get hurt during the game? did it appear serious? does anyone have any info? if it was during the game how did he play tonight. i just dont understand the dislike for this kid.
Well, he was a punk for starters. I was pretty pissed off when he blew his hamstring last year, though. D, meh, I was never sold; but other than that, any threat was a good threat to have. I guess we'll learn more soon enough.
I like Justin as a returner. He's a good nickel back too. He releases Leon off the return duties too. But the thing is, if Tom Brady gets injured for 8+ games every season, he'll get cut too. Why pay for one when he plays a few games? Why not give that roster spot to someone who can atleast be there for you when you need him? Don't get me wrong, I think Miller is a good CB. He'll only get better as he's about 24 I think. He'll be a very good CB by the time he's 27, 28. I hope his injury is a minor one. Foot injury can happen to anyone if you get trapped in the pile awkwardly. So Im hoping he pulls him self together and is ready by week 1.
Bad example with Tom Brady, and the Jets will wait out his contract to see if he comes to life at any time and meets expectations. Its his coverage thats the problem. He's not technically sound, and over anticipates which places him out of position most of the time.
I know the example was'nt good, just trying to make my point. He has the potential to be very good in this league. Now with proper coaching and game time experience, he can achieve his potential. Im hoping he gets some garbage time game experience this year when we would be leading 35-14 against the Pats, Bills, and Phins in all 6 games...especially the against the Pats.
jets have a solid plan to have miller ready to play DB before his 38th birthday. Mangini: "playing corner is a tough position. It will take miller 13 to 14 seasons to learn how to turn his head around and look for the damn ball. we work on this every day in practice"
Did anyone actually see the play where he got hurt? I read it was when tackling Jacobs, but there's no play that stand out to me.
He might have been done already ----- after the 2008 season, he is a UFA. He would have had to step up big time. Could not imagine a scenario in which the JETS would be interested in re-signing him.
I like, Miller. I think he has massive potential but he strikes me as someone with a slow learning curve. Granted, the postion is difficult, he still hasn't showed much progression from his rookie camp from what I've seen. I also think he will be good in a few years but I don't think it is worth the wait. Could be wrong but I doubt it. The injury thing isn't a big deal, he got seriously hurt last season, that is his only real injury since being a pro. We don't know the full extent of this one, I highly doubt this injury will be anywhere close to last season's injury.
Sad story. Another player jets fans decided was a bust before he even got a chance to show his stuff.
He actually played generally well on a bad defense his rookie year, Year 2 he was banged up and didnt see alot of playing time, and last year he obviously was out. Throughout that ENTIRE time frame up until now...people have claimed to hate him and have called him a bust. He's had setbacks and has made his share of mistakes..but at the same time...It should be on the record how ridiculous Jets fans view of him has been, since basically late his rookie year. He's a guy that still has a ton of potential. Is he perfect? No.Could he end up amounting to nothing?Sure. But I don't understand the immense hatred for the guy...and people basically rooting against him. Jet fans can't comprehend player development and think it's easier to call someone a bust. justin miller fell into that early in his career and it hasn't stopped.
Kurt, I can't agree with you here. To paraphrase Parcells, you are what your performance says you are. Miller looked relatively clueless his first year despite be a 2nd round pick (with 1st round talent...or so everyone said). His second year showed zero improvement. People got all excited because Mangini made one comment about him in training camp and then he couldn't stay on the field last year. This preseason he hasn't looked great and, again, looks like he can't stay on the field. Some guys don't make it due to performance, injury or whatever and that's okay. Justin Miller proved to not be able to overcome the deficiencies that were pointed out before the draft, namely, his football IQ and coverage ability pale in comparison to his athletic ability. And, when you are playing professional football, you don't get mulligans for being injured. Not saying that it is "fair," but not being able to perform (i.e. being injured) is viewed the same as playing and performing poorly. That's just the way it is. I am guessing that if Miller is going to miss more than 2 weeks the Jets will reach an injury settlement and finally move beyond hoping this is J. Miller's year every offseason.
