I nearly missed this , (yeah I know its Cimini.) , IMHO this would be a terrible move as I think DRob should revert back to DE , especially if Pouha is continuing to fit into the role of 3-4NT.
He has taken increasing snaps at DE throughout the season, as Pouha took more and more snaps at NT. He has looked pretty good at the position, so this surprises me a lot that Robertson would be leaving.
$12 million in 2008? He was never even worth a quarter of that. So long, you great waste of 2 first round picks.
and a 4th round pick. Drob and Bryan Thomas = 2 huge mistakes which the jets refuse to acknowledge and keep repeating by keeping them.
Its his cap number, every team has players they draft and back load their contracts. When those years come around teams ether release the player or rework his contract. I think we rework D-Rob?s contract, move him to DE, whenever he gets one on one he looks great. Its not his fault Mangini has been asking him to play NT even though he is 30 pounds under sized.
Definition of a 3-4 defensive end: tall, long arms, gets good push and can pin a tackle inside to let the OLB do his job. Must be good at getting his arms up on the rush to cut down passing lanes and deflect passes. Description of D-Rob: short, small arms, elusive against a single blocker, makes most of his impact plays after out-manouevering his blocker and getting penetration. Thinks the definition of getting his arms up is to raise them above waist level... D-Rob will be a worse 3-4 DE than he was a 3-4 NT but for the same reasons. He's just not built that way. Why don't we move him to WR? We've got a hole coming up there too.
I think it's the guaranteed bonus money that escalates when you trade or cut the player, not the salary figure.
Yeah it's the prorated bonus money that escalates onto the current cap. My point on the 12 million figure was that if it was salary, or a large part of it was salary, then D-Rob will be untradeable at that figure because he will carry a huge cap hit with him to his next team.
It's a daunting number, but most of the time I think teams will work a new deal for the player if they want them enough.
