It looks like the people up in New England are torn between Matt Cassel and Tom Brady. (What the...)

Now, what complicates the matter is that, Matt Cassel is a free agent after this season, and Pats have a serious decision to make. Some say let Brady go while the other say "Wish you good luck, Matt."

Here's my question: if *by a stroke of weird quirk* Brady does come free, do we take a shot at him?

*On a side note: This is a pure speculation. I am fully aware of how Brady detests us. Just take it as one of those "speculations" that really has no leg to stand on. Funny to think about anyway, no? :)*

i think if the pats let him go he would be heartbroken enough to stick it to them with us. that being said, i hope he breaks his other leg

Brady is not going to come free. Steve Young was the best backup QB in football by a mile when Montana got hurt. Cassell is a decent QB with a very good team around him. That's why the Pats are 6-4 right now. If they were 8-2 then you might have the beginning of a controversy there.

anyone thinking cassel would be better to have than brady is crazy. the offense is still stacked even with the injuries. put cassel on a team that doesn't have randy moss and wes welker and he is nothing more than an average qb.

brady can be great on any team. we all saw how good he was even when he had DB's playing at the receiver spot. brady is one of the GOATs cassel is just another guy.

and obviously if brady becomes available you go get him. but brady wont be going anywhere. and to bad for the pats they wont get anything for cassel someone will want him to be the starter for their team.

If Tom Brady retired tomorrow, despite the fact that he's still in his prime, he'd go down in history as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time. Assuming he comes back healthy from his surgery, there is no way they are going to let him go. He's going to be the starting quarterback in NE the moment he is ready to resume that role.

I picture Tom Brady retiring a Patsie. Cassel is going to have some nice money coming his way this offseason so he'll be gone. I expect Gutierrez or their 2nd year rookie to start next year, but Brady ain't going nowhere.

Brady will be back for next season.

Cassell will be overpaid to start by the Lions.

Gutierriez will back up Brady next year.

    /thread.

    Gee. Can't you people read?

I KNOW Brady is not leaving the Patriots. Period.

With THAT in mind, I asked the question. You didn't need all these "He ain't leaving" garbage. Ok?

This may sound a little strange, but the simplest scenario for New England is if Tom Brady isn't fully rehabbed by the start of free agency.

Seems bizarre, I know. But if that were the case, they could easily justify franchising Matt Cassel. There are then three scenarios, two of which would pay off in dividends.

The first is that Brady doesn't rehab the entire year, in which case Cassel is an experienced alternative for the 2009 season. (This would be the worst-case scenario).

The second is that Matt plays half the season and Brady returns in time for a play-off run, lighting a spark for a team who've regained their field general.

And the third, the ideal scenario, is that Brady gets fully healthy by week 6 and the Pats trade Cassel for a couple of first rounders. In all of these scenarios, New England doesn't risk further injury to their hall of fame quarterback by rushing him on the field too quickly.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES would the Patriots ditch Tom Brady for a guy who can't throw the long ball while Randy Moss is still a Patriot.

AND UNDER ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING CIRCUMSTANCES will Tom Brady be a Jet. Belichick would not let that happen, Kraft would not let that happen, Brady would not let that happen.

I think that depends a lot more on how the season ends than how he's feeling now.

Wouldn't it be the shit to have Brady backing up Favre? I can see it now. Favre screams at Brady "you got my gatorade, son? Well hurry up, I aint got all day"

Ok, seriously I think hell will freeze over before the Patriots let Brady go. But then again it already has froze over. I never thought in a million years that the Packers would trade Favre away. It still confounds me.

Isn't this off-topic? Isn't this the NEW YORK JETS portion of the mesage board? Besides--Tom Brady suffered a severe injury and will never be a great QB again, so who cares?

I think they let Cassel go and let Kevin O'Connell become Brady's backup.

I think they're developing O'Connell to be the QB of the future. He's got a shitload of potential.

If it was any other team I'd call you crazy. But I bet they haven't learned from the Scott Mitchell debacle.
