Anyone watch any highlights from yesterday? Some of you who perch on a ledge after every loss should pay attention to the rest of the league and you'll find out where the phrase "On any given Sunday..." comes from. Some of the solid teams I mentioned took worse beatings yesterday, at the hands of weaker teams. Mind you, I'm not putting the Jets in the class of the Colts or Pats, just using their defeats to make a point. For those of you who are teenagers, I guess I understand the frustration a little more, but for those of us who have watched the league for 30+ years, c'mon, are you seriously shocked that upsets occur and your team plays a great game one week and a crap game the next? Now, I felt like crap after the game too - long walk back to the car and a longer drive home - but after you calm down a bit, especially the next day, I just can't understand how you point fingers and label careers after a single game. This is just as ridiculous as people who had us in the Super Bowl last week after GB. As far as Chad goes, he's not a pro bowl guy, never will be. Can he take us to the Super Bowl? Yes (see my previous post on lesser QBs who've done it). Will he? Who knows, but all of you who have been calling for an unheralded rookie to take over the last month or so just don't know the game at all. You don't throw away a shot at the postseason because your QB is up and down (see Denver's mistake, and they have a much heralded rookie QB).
Great post John. I couldn't agree more. That Saints Cowboys game was great last night. They were bitch slapping Parcells team around hard. But as you said, there were a lot of surprises in store this week.
yeah great post John, thanks for pointing out that the Jets can be beaten by anyone on any given Sunday
sure why not...but this is not a case of us Jet fans whining because we're a juggernaut and lost to a shitty team...this is a case where we're wondering what the hell we're gonna do in the future at quarterback
If you're a fan because you like the colors of their uniforms, their physical attributes, or the great people you meet at the games then losing to the point of not having much of a chance of getting into the playoffs might be fine for you. But, speaking as a fan that enjoys seeing my team get into the playoffs and more I'd have to disagree. I don't enjoy watching my team for months just to see them blow it through the bad play of a few individuals. So, I'd have to say that bitching and complaining at this point is justified. Now, if it was before the first game. Or, after the first loss. I would probably agree with you. Premature opinions. But, at the start of next season I want the problems addressed and a feeling of "We can." And, right now... is the time to figure out why we didn't. Which means bitching and complaining. Chad taking us to the Super Bowl????? Are you smoking something? Do you like the way his eyes look? Don't get me wrong. I think Chad is a great person. But, taking us to the Super Bowl?
Bitching and complaining is fine, but have you read the ridiculous stuff said on this board??? Oh, and as far as Chad and the SB, do a quick Google search on SB QBs and get back to me.
Hey, I would love to see Clemens turn into the next Brady, but how many Bradys and Mannings are there? Not many. I'm disappointed by Chad's throws too - he looked totally uncomfortable yesterday. But who really knows why he looks so good one week and so bad the next? None of us, that's for sure. He deserves a season in the new system and then you can step back and look at the season in full in a few months an assess his performance. I'm sure the staff feels the same way. Anyway, my initial post wasn't entirely about Chad. People are criticizing Vilma on here today, not to mention Ferguson, a rookie! It's just ridiculous.
I'm not defending everything said on the board. I am defending everyones right to say something. Especially now. Googled "Super Bowl Quarterbacks" Didn't find Chad anywhere. ???????????????????????????????
It was a team loss. Everything on both sides of the ball was bleak, and the coaching did not seem to amount to much of an impact today. We saw this when we tanked on Jax. Occassionally you can look at a game where you are in it and trace the loss back to 1-3 things that happened and say definitively that one meathead was responsible for the game being lost. I don't see that happening with yesterdays game. It was a huge fiasco and everyone has to own it.
well I myself am a sunshiner by all standards but ive washed my hands with chad. and I can tell you why he looks great one week and horrible the next. he literally buries the teams he should. but when it comes time to prove himself he always falls flat on his face. and anyone pointing to the NE game this year to defend chad I say this............thats an easy game to qb with the way our running game was going. and our D made all the right stops at the right time. theres a difference between liking a player and blind support, and some people just dont see the difference. Penny's supporters say things such as "we wouldve had only 4 wins without him". BS, I guess critics arent allowed to point to the most important position on the field when we lose. yet when we win the great performance by the whole team is trumped in some stupid "ressurection" story of Penny's career. when all he has done is win very winnable games.
Very funny, but you obviously get my point and can't refute the fact that some horrendous QBs have taken their team to and won the SB. I'm not saying Chad will or won't, but he's certainly capable.
I understand where you're coming from. It totally felt this way before the season, due to the injuries, and may feel that way after the season, but I'm not ready to throw the towel in just yet. Let's see how this plays out the rest of the year. Again, this wasn't really all about defending Chad, just pointing out the reality of the situation and how good (or bad) this team really is.
We probably would have about 4 wins without Pennington. I am not a die-hard Pennington fan, but I can at least respect what he brings to the table. He's not the greatest, or even in the top 6-7 QB's in the league. But every year you want to come out and win as many games as possible, with the players that give you the best chance to win. THIS year, Pennington does give us that. To say otherwise is just silliness. I am content to hang my hat on the fact that the CS has endorsed him up to this point, and willing to trust that they will know when he's done or not. He keeps having bad games, then next year may be interesting in how the QB competition plays out. I see no reason to bench him for Clemens unless we are out of the playoff picture.
I no longer have to post in this thread..I give coachk power of attorney to speak for me because he obviously "gets it"
John127 So, we need a horrendous QB to get us to the Super Bowl. And, Chad fits that mold???? I'd have to disagree with that opinion.
I'm hoping Pennington gets the rest of the season as the #1, but no further, nor do I want to see him hanging around here as #2. We should hope like hell we reach the playoffs, then say our goodbyes after the season ends (most likely in a defeat featuring no passing TDs and under 200 yards through the air.)
Hey, if Trent Dilfer can get a ring, Penny could too. Although, I would agree with anyone that your chances are always better with a solid QB. I think Avg-Poor QB's making and winning a SB are the exception.
You can get up off the floor, son. Brad Johnson? Doug Williams? Trent Dilfer? Mark Rypien? (And those were guys who won -- and didnt just get there.) For Pete's sake -- CHRIS CHANDLER made it to a super bowl.
