Personally, I'm taking Luck every time, but I've recently heard several people suggest otherwise. Who ya got?
Well, I'm going to assume the existing teams aren't going to just give you their quarterback. And I just read that the number 1 free agent QB next season is going to be Mark Sanchez. And since he will have by far more playoff wins than anyone you could possibly draft, I think he's got to be your man.
Russel Wilson ill take. People are underestimating his ability. He has done whatever his coaching staff has asked of him. When they ask him to open up the offense and lead a high powered pass attack, he will do that. I give credit to Luck, he has weapons, but that oline is atrocious and its not getting better anytime soon.
Andrew Luck. He's a pocket passer. And he can run when he needs to. Russell Wilson is running college plays out there
The fact that he is running them means at this point they are NFL plays, very effective NFL plays -- Rob Ryan. I would take Wilson over Luck. There is an intangible factor to winning that Wilson has. He also makes a lot fewer mistakes than Luck.
Luck, Wilson is a close second but he relies on his running ability and I'm still not sold on that being a good long term thing for NFL QB longevity. Take away Wilson's read option and he's a smart but rather average QB. Luck is smart and if he loses his speed he's still got his greatest asset, his arm.
Luck. It's not really close with any other QB at this point. Rodgers is 30, you're not going to start a team with a 30 year old QB. Luck is 25 years old and he's the focal point of his offense in a way that nobody since Peyton Manning circa 2000 has been at this point in their career. The only other young QB that has a real shot at being as dominant in their career at this point is Cam Newton.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but I have a feeling it is going to end up be like asking who would you rather have had Marino or Montana.
People are underestimating Wilson, he is on a loaded squad but thats not going to last forever. When it comes down to just making raw plays, he does as good of a job as Luck does.
Actually I think the better question is who you surround them with. Put the best QB ever on the field give him the best receivers and RB's but if you've got a crap offensive line it's going to negate a large part of the benefits of the great receivers and all. I just think that long term the pocket passer will be the longer lasting investment.
True, but not complete picture either. 3 games, 8 picks, 7 TD's (rushing and passing) in 140 attempts....that's an average of 46.6 attempts per game....when you're passing that much there are going to be picks...and the number of throws is in part because of the lack of a running game in those years. To put that in to perspective Wilson has only attempted more than 26 passes in the post season 1 time, with 36 attempts...it's also the only playoff game he threw a pick...aka the more you throw the more you're going to get picked...it's just a fact of life. All this despite, as you've admitted in other posts, that Luck has a horrible offensive line while Wilson has a very good one. Not knocking Wilson, he's an excellent QB and one of two QB's under 26 I"d even consider building a team around right now....(Bridgewater may join that club in a year or two, but not right now, need to see a lot more from him than 1 game).
