Enough of this rebuilding. We need a guy who can come in here and work with the players we got. I am not in for another 3 year defense rebuild. I would rather give mangini another year with new coordinator.
Yeah imagine they hire a new coach and he changes the system again, guaranteeing Woody that this time we'll get it right. Knowing this team, it will happen. Mangini apparently has everything he needs to make the system work and look at our D in the last 1/4 of the season. Hey, maybe the system he had in mind was just shit from the get go!
Agreed, I'm sick of the revolving door of defensive schemes we've had for the past decade. First the 3-4, then the Cover-who, then the Ravens 4-3, then back to the 3-4. Stick with one scheme or we will never have a decent defense.
we shouldve stayed with the 4-3 with vilma in the middle. he had the guts and character to lead this defense.
Cowher is the answer to the constantly changing schemes. He brought in the 3-4 in Pittsburgh and stayed with it for a decade and a half. A very good 3-4 btw. People forget the Steel Curtain was 4-3 all the way. Cowher made the Steelers 3-4 and stuck with it through a decade of change when everybody was moving back to the 4-3.
Changing the system will mean more crappy football for a couple of years and I just cant deal anymore
Does anyone even know if Cowher would come to the JETS. Is he ready to come back.??? If he really is interested in coaching another team I would love to have him.
That's pretty much why he's one of the only HC candidates I would go for right now. Our offense... well, it has no identity anyway, and we have no QB after this season, so it's not out of the question to build it from the ground up. Around guys like Leon and Keller and Cotch.
Like I said before,, Let Woody have a few holiday cocktails then call COWHER and see if he would be intested in getting a huge Christmas bonus and coach our team. Maybe offer him a drinkie pooh.
Sorry to say it but even with all Mangini and Tannenbaums efforst our roster is still better suited for the 4-3 than the 3-4. Although Jenkins was a beast early in the season, he is a traditional 4-3 DT , that was the knock on the Jets when the picked him up converting him to NT. Ellis is a better 4-3 End. Maybe the Bust Ghoston can actually be a 4-3 end , instead of being a complete waste. David Harris can play Middle in a 4-3. I would much prefer a 4-3 - Most of the Dominating Defenses are.
Yeah, I remember when Herm showed up and wanted to play a Cover 2 scheme, meanwhile he hires Ted Cottrell and he wanted to run the D that he did up in Buffalo. I remember it took forever to make the pieces fit, then Mangini comes in and scraps the whole thing to run a 3-4. Enough already, scheme the D around the talent that's in place...
If Cowher is the only 3-4 guy available (besides Billick who's been looking at some negative sentiment on this board), another alternative is to hire an offensive-minded coach and just make sure the new DC has some experience with the 3-4. Not sure which offensive-minded coach or 3-4 oriented DC's are available, but it's just another thought.
Just for the record Billick is not a 3-4 guy , he is an offensive coach, a guru if you remember his days with the Vikings. Rex Ryan is a 3-4 guy. However the reason he is gone because over the years his Offense sucked even though that was his area of expertise. Say no to Billick.
How many of those teams have to play in Ny and deal with all the pressure it brings. I would love to bring Cowher in here but a lot of people want him to be their Head Coach. Just because the Jets have talent on their roster it doesnt mean that Cowher wants to come here.
There are more dominant 4-3 defenses because there are more 4-3 defenses in the NFL. I would wager that the percentage of dominant 3-4 defenses is higher than the percentage of dominant 4-3 defenses. Steelers, Pats, and Dallas come to mind.
I know, we lost John Abe and Vilma due to system changes, so if we go to a 4-3, you know they will move Dave Harris.
