If we do get the #9 and take a RB Who do you take? I say DeAngelo. He is simply the best senior in the draft and takes 40 carries a game while Lendale splits his carries. He holds a lot of ncaa rushing records too. This pick is pretty much a no brainer.
Cutler at 4 and Winston Justice at 9...I wouldn't complain about drafting Lendale White or Williams at 9.
Eh, I am not so sure about that. We do have a hall of fame back still on this team, remember? I could easily see LenDale splitting carries with Curtis for two years, at which time, Houston is ready to split, or we grab another back. This all hinges on whether we want an RB at #9. While I think it is the high profile pick, I don't think it would be prudent for the team. We have a decent three back rotation, with CMart, Blaylock and Houston. Of the areas that this team needs immediate help, I just don't think RB is one of them.
Is there actually a rumor that we could get the #9 pick? (I guess it would be for Abe) because I don't see the Lions doing that trade at all. EDIT: n/m, saw the Clayton thing
Lendale because he would be the power runner to C-mart's finese runner. Good mix like C-mart & Jordan used to be.
^^ What he said.....no time for drafting a rb we have more pressing needs and we have players at that position that can get the job done.
IF we get #9: it's gotta be a QB and then OL or OL and RB. I'm not too fond of selecting a RB early because their careers are shorter and it's not worth spending that pick, unless you're a team on the verge of making a run and RB is one of the final pieces to your puzzle. Personally, I'd prefer Lendale White because he has a bit longer shelf-life than Williams, since he's had less carries and he's a year younger; not to mention, he's a damn good RB with a nose for the endzone. cheers
i would take white give him a year to split time with curtis to get adjusted to work load then let him loose in 07. the guy is a tank. qb and rb with 4&9 top picks
I put that there for a reason. I did change it, but 'an' actually sounds better if you actually say the letters "RB" after it, not the word runningback.
Williams, Houston can take the short-yardage/goalline carries, but White and Houston are similar size even though White's better, he's just too much like Houston for me. Let Williams start this year and let him be tutored under Curtis, who will play a role like Marshall Faulk did for Stephen Jackson last year. Let Houston be #3 and take over as the short-yardage back when Curtis retires.
I really wouldn't be upset with either Lendale White or DeAngelo Williams. I would favor Lendale White simply because he comes across as a very durable back. A guy who would be a good bad-weather runner. If we do pick up a quality back this year it would be great because he would have Curtis to mentor under even thought the guy would be getting appreciable time. There would be a lot of good stuff Curtis could teach. How to gaurd against fumbles, work ethic, being a team player, letting the $$$$ take care of itself - just concentrate on what you do on the field and helping the team. Curtis Martin is going to make an excellent coach some day. I won't say head coach yet, but as a running backs coach he will be a real great addition to any coaching staff.
Dont know about 4- we could go in a bunch of directions...Cutler, Williams (Mario or DeAngelo), trade down, Hawk, etc. But I know who I want at 9. Vernon Davis
In Deangelo Williams' collegiate career, he never carried the ball 40 times in a game. In 44 collegiate games he had 30 or more carries 10 times. http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/playerDetail.jsp?yr=2005&org=404&player=20
I hate to bust on you too much RobA, but it is hilarious the way you latch on to something like a dog with a bone. Let's review the great loves of RobA's TGG.com life: - 2005 Jets Playoff Chances - Jay Fiedler - DeAngelo Williams
Would you rather trade JAbe and a 3 for Lions' #9, or trade JAbe for Denver's 22 & 29. (I have a hard time believing either occurs, but for the sake of argument).
