I absolutely consider him. This FO has already passed on 3 potential franchise Qb types for Clemens. They better be damned sure that Clemens is the man for this team if they are going to pass on another one. Their jobs depend on it.
You have to take him. No way we can pass him up. Chad is not the answer and Kellen needs to show me more next year.
If we want to win now or in the next 2 years, no. If we are "rebuilding" than yes. I say no. QBs take too long to develop, why start over again.
I hope you get some razor blades ready for this summer, something tells me you're going to need them.
Not at all. It will just signify the end of the Mangini era. As someone on this board once said AJ Duhe covered in Mud ruined my childhood! Watching Chad throw up wounded ducks for another year is nothing! 41 years and counting!
I don't think you take him. I hear there is a pretty good new Mock darft on the draft threads that address the QB situation. You guys should give it a look and maybe some notes. Sorry for plugging myself I just want to hear what people think.
If the NYJ FO were to take Matt Ryan, he would go gray before he got a chance on the field. First he would have to learn the BS system. This along would preclude his competing successfully in the first 1.5 seasons. Secondly, he would have to wait until KC beats out CP which may not neccessarily be 2008, may be even it would be more than 2009 if CP is as stubborn and diligent has he can be. Then KC will have to really get his own turn, only 5% behind CP all along. KC will need to make a run of his career because the OL and DL will have been thoroughly grounded in the NYJ system, strong as mastadons, and angry for breakfast-lunch-and-supper. So Matt Ryan has a good chance to be the next Jason Garrett...brilliant, perfectly serviceable, but permanently in waiting. No, in my opinion, not a good pick at no. 6.
The Bills??? You never know... hopefully we milk some good picks out of the deal because we could really use them this year. OL and DL... where we need to spend out picks/cash this year.
Gentlemen, the latest from Wright's NFL Draft Countdown blog has some interesting prospects: "...February 5th, 2008 • In case you missed it the list of players invited to the Scouting Combine was just released. As always there were some guys that are not going who, in my opinion, definitely deserved to be there. Not being invited isn't the end of the world though and some recent examples of that are Willie Colon (Round 4 in '06) and Usama Young (Round 3 in '07). In fact, it is a little known fact that on average about 13-15% of the prospects drafted every year did not attend the Combine. Here is my list of this year's biggest snubs: Kerry Brown, OG, Appalachian St. - Small-school mauler with good size and good intangibles. Eric Wicks, S, West Virginia - A playmaker who was a key component on the Mountaineers D. Lance Leggett, WR, Miami (FL) - Former 5-Star recruit with nice measurables (6-3, 192/4.45). Mike Peterson, TE, NW Missouri St. - An H-Back prospect who is athletic and has good speed. Darrell Blackman, WR, North Carolina St. - One of the premier return specialists in this draft. Fernando Velasco, C, Georgia - A versatile interior lineman with excellent size and potential. Brian Johnston, DE, Gardner-Webb - A productive overachiever with marginal physical tools. Brian Witherspoon, CB, Stillman - Has 4.25 speed and is one of the fastest players available. Maurice Murray, DT, New Mexico St. - Real versatile and could be either a 4-3 DT or a 3-4 DE. Rodrick Johnson, ILB, Oklahoma St. - May lack ideal speed but he's a thumper in the middle...."
I don't think there's a top ten quarterback in this draft, so I don't think Matt Ryan is a top ten quarterback. Rule of thumb is that you don't spend high picks on quarterbacks who don't complete 60 percent of their passes. If you do, you get stuck with a Joey Harrington type. Ryan didn't show particularly consistent accuracy or decision making. 19 interceptions is a lot of interceptions for a college passer. It's very disconcerting. From what I saw, he has a good, not great arm. Overall, I think he's a guy who looks the part on a team that had a nice little run and he got a lot of exposure. I don't think he's going to be much at the next level. And while I don't love Clemens, the position is simply too important to quit on him after a year where he had no line and major injuries at receiver. -X-
