Do you really see the Jets passing on him? I just can't see that happening.. unless by some miracle Bush is still there. I can see maybe trading down, but I can't see the Jets actually taking anyone else at 4 if Leinart is still there.
The draft board at 4... 1- Bush 2- Leinart 3- Mario 4- Davis Leinart is the type of franchise QB you build a team around. You dont pass on a guy like him. Golden rule of the draft: you dont pass on a franchise QB if you dont already have one
A lot of people are saying we would take D'Brick over him but I just don't see it, the crowd reaction would be terrible, and deservedly so. You don't pass on a franchise QB who wants to play for your team for a lineman with holes in his game in a draft with great tackle depth. Also, we don't even need a LT, we need a RT.
I want Mario Williams or D'Brickashaw Ferguson at 4 (whoever the Saints don't draft, in other words). I like winning. The Jets don't need to sell tickets, so Leinart is not necessary.
If Leinart is there at 4, he will be there at 5. We are not taking a quarterback that high, especially one that is a product of a great college offensive team. Ken Dorsey won a bunch of games in a row on a good team, and nobody wanted to draft him with the fourth pick. Thankfully our front office is smarter than our fan base, and realizes that football games are won on the defensive and offensive lines.
This is highly accurate. To be even more accurate- NFL games are won with the 4th quarter pass rush. Games are so tightly contested these days that line play (particularly DE vs OT battles late in games) is a major, major factor. The Jets will address this key aspect of winning football games with the 4th pick with the selection of a guy who will rush the passer late in games (Mario Williams) or a guy who will attempt to halt pass rushers late in games (D'Brickashaw Ferguson).
Well Said! I am not averse to taking a quarterback on a day 1, but I do feel that we should wait until the third round. If we were able to get a player such as Whitehurst, I would be happy with that. It seems as if the board gets a hard-on for certain quarterbacks. It goes between Cutler, Leinart, and now Croyle. Even Kellon Clemens is getting some love.
I think Croyle is too brittle, but he can play. I like Clemens but he may take a couple years to develop. He played in a spread offense which led to a higher completion percentage than he would have had in a pro style offense at Oregon. Regardless, I still like the idea of him going to the Jets in a middle round. Whitehurst was a little too up and down for me, but with the extra picks this year I would be okay with the Jets drafting him.
I would be completely shocked if they passed on Leinart. I thought there was a possibilty with Mario on the board, but now that he is out of the picture I would be shocked.. You don't pass on a potential franchise Qb for an OLineman..
