... & realizing he's JUST a rook, but I was somewhat - to a small degree - disappointed with DeMarcus Milliner's overall performance. The gratuitous spacing he afforded Jag rec'vr Justin Blackmon seemingly showed a lack of confidence in his cvr'age skills. Rather than go balls-out, he resigned himself to protect fr being "toasted" on deep patterns (hence the large cushion he gave J.B.). Also troubling to me was his footwork on a few "attempt(s)" to prevent 3rd-dwn conversions (specifically Jags J.B. converting a 3rd-7 to a gain of 10 yds; Dee appeared to close in for a stop but was juked -foot positioning poor...). B-4 any of you good people "tear" into my "unprof's'nal" analysis/opinion of D-Mill, I KNOW he's just a rook; I KNOW it's ONLY pre-season; I DO realize he's not "D.REVIS REVISTED", but he played more like a safety rather than a true corner - a position designed 1st & foremost on rec'vr coverage. He was deemed the starter after "out-performing" incumbent Kyle Wilson (who IMHO is useless in the 2nd'dary) earlier in camp. He came to the Jets with nice creds in college but his perf vs the Jags has me wondering..... I'm jus' sayin'!
It is way too early to start judging too much. I really think he is going to be a star for us. One step at a time with him, soon enough we will see why he was worth our first pick this draft.
Cro and DeeMillz was playing off a bit...we all know Rex will have these boys playing in the face of their WR's. We will see a glimse of the REAL DeeMillz against the Giants
Thought Xavier Rhodes was a better scheme fit because of his ability to play physical press man coverage. We'll see. Way, way too early to call.
Throw me in this category as well, I think he'll be fine but I felt addressing the OL was more pressing as was getting a LB/S but I do think Milliner will turn out to be a good player.
you could substitute cromartie for milliner 2 yrs ago......he always seemed to play 20 yards off his man. Now? Light out.
Why do the Jets always seem to draft players who need 6 years to develop,Im still waiting for Kyle Wilson to step up
You know....THIS!!! I've often wondered this. The last draft pick that we drafted who didn't need a learning "curve" was Mangold. Even Ferguson took a year or two to really shine. Revis was a Manning/Brady type...ready out of the gate. But, for the most part we always seem to get guys who must "blossom!" It is early for me and I'm still waking up but does ANYONE know when the Jets had an Offensive Rookie of the year? Defensive Rookie of the year? I can't remember if Revis got it or not... Just once I'd like an IMPACT player right out of the gate.
i was very happy with both BAP choices in round 1 cb is as tough to transition as any position outside of qb ... plus all dee needs is to be better than k-dub ... won't take him long
Exactly!!! Revis was good as a rookie but not what I'd consider "lights out" He didn't even win DROY if I recall correctly. I think we're overreacting to a couple of bad plays which 99% of the CB's in this league will have from time to time.
dude justin blackmon was a top 5 pick, give him some credit its not like it was a scrub dee was covering out there. plus, its preseason and dude is coming off of a shoulder injury, he missed a week? of camp IIRC dee will be fine, rex wouldnt put him in front of kyle wilson if he was a scrub, considering the year kyle had last season as the number two, im not worried about the rookie starting. rex will have him about as prepared as he needs to be.
You stress that you know it's preseason and all that, but you don't seem to really get that. It's preseason week 2 of his rookie season. Give him a minute.
he will be fine. just rookie learning curve is all. he has, in two games, shown more competence in man coverage than k-dub has shown since he was drafted. and who knows about the playing off stuff. maybe rex wanted that as to not tip his hand or something. part of running vanilla looks if you will.
Funny you should mention Revis in the title, since he took a year to develop and wasn't even expected to start until the end of preseason. He also took some lumps early in the regular season of his rookie year. I'm jus' sayin'.
This is New Jersey, New Yawk (Frank Sinatra's bizzaro world?), player development is not tolerated here.
