We all post here with our opinions of the Jets 2008 season. What I am looking for here can be considered "closure" to the 2008 season. Everything we have posted so far has been speculative in nature. We are hungry like rabid dogs for the truth about the 2008 season to rise from the ashes it turned out to be.

I want the damn truth already. It has been about 12 days now and we are still spinning our tires in the mud. The search for a new Head Coach isn't helping matters. All of the players are keeping quiet because they don't want to fall out of favor with the Front Office.

The Coaches are quiet because they are still under contract.

Mangini's Cleveland press conference told us nothing about his firing. (Like I expected anything but)

Favre's comments are spoken from a farm in Mississippi.

The GM is too busy trying to save his job.

The owner is too busy vacationing.

Goddamn! I can handle the truth, lay it on me New York Jets. What the hell really happened behind the scenes of the 2008 season?

We were a good team who didn't make the playoffs.

Because of this we fire a coach who gets a job before we hire his replacement.

This can turn out good or bad. Thats pretty much the whole fun of it.

Number one, I'd like to know if it Mangini or Sutton is to blame for those horrible schemes. Secondly, I'd like to know who was playing hurt.

Reports indicate Mangini tore up the defensive scheme after the Denver loss. Putting in a new scheme on such short notice really messed things up... That was a bad call by EM. The offense sputtering was any combination of bad play-calling, Favre wearing down and making poor decisions. We also abandoned the run a little prematurely. It all adds up to a massive collapse.

Jenkins back/hip injuries were probably worse than led on but we never know the deal with injuries. Favre having a partially torn bicep tendon (or whatever it was) didn't help matters either. That's just bad luck right there.

This is a professional sports organization, we can never really know the truth even if it is presented as such.

I think you hit on the crux of the problem right there. And it asks the same question the OP asked.

Why was the defensive scheme so ineffective in the first place? If a defense is broke (and it was), then Mangini did the right thing by trying to fix it. Only he waited way too long. The secondary was getting torched as early as the September New England game. What underlying factors that were never made public were the root cause of the problems?

Were the blitz schemes that worked early in the season suddenly easily detected by the opposition or were they dropped in order to protect the secondary? Two years ago with average talent, the secondary held up and was at least decent. This year, the Jets had Pro Bowl level play on one side but couldn't cover anybody. That doesn't make sense. Better personnel in most areas and less production as the season wore on. One day, I'd love to know the real answer to what brought down the Jets defense.

And then there is the offense.....

Mangini had a big hand in the defense. It all begins and ends with him.He deserved wht he got.
We had problems with Sutton, last season. Mangini should have gotten rid of him then.Maybe he would have lasted at least another year.

Truth? Our QB wore down, our best Defensive player who played in the 3/4 for the first time wore down, I thought Mangold and Woody wore down and were expossed late. We lack speed on the edge on D and we lack speed on O almost everywhere with the exception of Keller who was a rookie and played like one much of the year. We tried to cover up our lack of speed on D by flooding the secondary with mediocre slow talent and it failed.

We simply need some more speed on D more speed on the edge on D another CB a shrink for Kerry Rhodes, a true No. 1 WR a running back who can move the chains when teams are defending the run, a serious blocker at TE a better RT and I would suggest we go back to the 4/3 to take some of the wear off Jenkins.

Sutton was the problem Period even thou Mangini stunk it up with his play calling vs the Seahawks Sutton refused to blitz he rushed 3 guys all day QB'S had all day to sit back there & pick us apart you have to rush at least 4 guys on every pass play

The truth is that the team wasn't very well coached and the personnel wasn't used appropriately or well (constant 3 man rush while our OLB were primarily pass rushers being misused in coverage). When you have that you have to change to one in charge.

Mangini will probably do well with Cleveland, making use of what he learned here. It sucks, but that's what it is. Now we should get a decent head coach, change our DC and move on. The pieces are there, we just need someone who can use them effectively.

i think the root problem is that our coaching staff was bad. i bet that if gholston was playing for baltimore or pats he wud've had a great season. other than parcells (and his team) no other coaching staff has been able to motivate the players to play at their highest potential consistently.

What I am asking for is a well respected team veteran to shed a light on the collapse. So far, all we have is a Thomas Jones interview on a radio station, a fluff piece from Kris Jenkins and some blurbs from Favre via a Mississippi news article.

How hurt were certain players? Jenkins, Harris, Favre.

What is the opinion from the team of the Offensive and Defensive schemes?

Mangini and his top secret ways are gone. Lets open up a little.

The real truth is that we crashed and burned. No one has put out the fire yet. Much less started to rebuild the aircraft.

Whaddo you guys want...a friggin 9/11 commission out of this?

The team fell apart for many, many reasons. The HC is gone.

I guarantee you that most PLAYERS don't know the politics of last season. It's not our business, the organization chose a fall guy and got rid of him already, so maybe we should take that as our cue to move on.

    That about sums it up.

We will never know how hurt Favre or anyone else really was. Who was at fault for our pass rush and run D dying off. Why Leon washington did not get the ball more. Why we built a power running team and threw the ball so much.

The fact is we failed badly in the last 5 weeks.

Real truth: expectations got too high, then the defense and Favre shit the bed and now we're witnessing the fallout of a NY team collapse
