I have the strangest feeling that the Vikings, Eagles, etc will attempt to go for Leon now that LTs off the market. In that case we would get a second round pick for Leon. I think Tanny really wants that 2nd round pick for some reason. Maybe he has his eyes on another RB or theres another guy in the draft that he really wants. I wouldn't be that upset if Leon were to go next year if we can find another big play guy. We seemed to do fine last year without Leon anyway. Maybe the FO wants to get a guy like Tate or something and still have enough picks to cover team needs. In that case, go get em Mike!
Odds of Leon going to the chargers is probably about 0 percent. Odds of Leon going to the Eagles are very low (I dont see a need for him because they have McCoy, but I could see him doing incredibly well in their offense) Leon to the Vikings, definitely possible. (prepare for flaming since the thread really doesnt add anything new)
Apparently he is. I posted what Mike T said and the thread was all about shipping Leon away. I hope nobody give the Jets a 2nd for him, or anything for him. He comes back and has 06-07 like seasons for us.
My bad I corrected it, I read the nj.com article and thought the Chargers were also interested. I disagree that this isn't anything new, because LT getting signed to the Jets and not the Vikings, puts the Vikings at now more of a demand for Leon. Therefore, I think Leon is more likely to get scooped up.
One would have to be okay with the 2nd round pick compensation if he were to leave because it's a deep draft, but I'm hoping he overcomes the injury and gives us the best RB corps in the NFL.
I really don't care where he goes, I just really want that 2nd round pick. No questions asked. I appreciate everything LW has done for us, but it is time to move on. It just makes sense.
if he has to go he has to go, but id rather see his talent stay with us. that being said, with the results tanny and co have had in making decisions, i trust whatever they decide to do will be the right move.
We can hope. I love Leon, but I am hoping we get the second round pick. Spiller and Best are sick, and they have sick speed, and they will be big playmakers. Some are saying Spiller will make it out of the top 10, and we could probably make a deal for him if he slipped so low. Leon has given his best years to us. This is a young man's game. To get a 2 for him now would be such a bonus. And to have to pay him, or give him a big contract would be horrible.
I'd love to see Leon remain a Jet and return to being one of the best playmakers on the team but the LT signing really does put his future status as a Jet in jeopardy. Knowing Tanny, if a team is somehow willing to part with a 2nd rounder I don't really see him matching the offer if it's too much money. I also really don't think that Leon is on pace to be at 100% for opening day as he stated earlier, if that's true then why would they actively pursue LT and why wouldn't he be tendered with a higher pick?
It's easy to forget about how good a player is when they miss through injury. Out of sight, out of mind. He was our best player before Revis was touched by the hand of God.
I'm content with it either way....if he leaves we get a second round pick....if he stays and is healthy then we have the best RB rotation in the league
I agree with this, but you have to take into consideration he was the best at his position. He can be replaced by a adequate or slightly above average player and we would still be in a very excellent position to make a run. Replace Revis with the same caliber player and we will feel it much more.
Like leon as a player but coming off a serious injury and 2 years away from 30. getting a 2nd for him now is a no brainer.
I guess I don't really know what LT has left in the tank for next season but I'm pretty sure LW has twice that. It'll be a shame if we wind up with an over-the-hill star as our 3rd down back when we had a prime time guy in the role the last few years.
It would depend on how the guy played next season. One thing we're all collectively forgetting, in some kind of weird amnesia, is how good Leon really is at what he does. If you give up a really good player in his prime for a draft pick that guy better pan out. Signing LT doesn't mean anything to me because if he wasn't up to the task of running for the Chargers last year he really isn't going to be up to running for the Jets in 2010. Here's another piece of weird collective amnesia, most of us were not too happy with TJ for his inability to get loose behind the Jet's line in the playoffs last year. He had no escapability. Well, LT is going to be 10x worse at that next season.
