Why don't we have depth? Why don't we have more wide receivers? Why don't we have an upgraded oline?

Why don't we fix these things, are we broke? I am a Jets fan, but I don't know about how the business works.

I here everyone complain how the offense aint got weapons amd we need to fix the oline, is it as easy as just signing some guys?

Is it a money issue? Why aint nothing getting fixed?

    ...in before SOJFs

The reason we don't have as much depth as we would like is because our organization likes to trade away low draft picks for higher ones and/or "good" players past their prime. We also tend to go after the highly touted FA instead of building through the draft. We've also made some questionable contracts (Holmes and Hunter) -- money has definitely been an issue due to a few of our larger contracts taking up space.

That said, the issues we face are the same ones that 95% of the league faces. Maybe we are weak at WR and RT (we are), but many teams are weak at several positions as well. That doesn't mean we won't make the playoffs nor that we won't have success.

We're weak at WR because we didn't resign Edwards because of cap issues. Then Cotchery wanted out because of his role/the way this team acts in the media, and Derrick Mason, his replacement, was complete garbage and gone after a few weeks. Edwards' replacement was a WR out of jail, Burress, who was not the same player and not resigned. Neither Edwards or Cotchery has been replaced with the same production. We hope Hill can be Edwards one day and hope Kerley can be Cotchery. Hope doesn't help Sanchez or our depth out.

Nothing's getting fixed because the Jets won't admit anything is really wrong on that side of the ball.

Wayne Hunter was terrible last year - option picked up.

The WR's were collectively under-achieving last year because there was no #1 who could prosper even when he was accounted for by the defense - two rookies added to the mix because that's what you do when you have nobody accountable, add more people who by virtue of inexperience will be unaccountable.

The TE's couldn't block all year - Mulligan let go, Cumberland returns from injury but we still have no TE's who can block.

Offensive line depth was a big issue last season - so the Jets draft one lineman in the 6th round as their only major addition on the line.

It's like the Jets collectively blinked their eyes and are pretending last season didn't happen.

We have depth but - they stink - why? Because The Jets don't want to pay for any decent backups. There were recievers and right tackles available but the Jets try to do things hoping to sign a quality backup on the cheap. Well all the quality backups went to other teams because they offered more money so the Jets are left with projects all over the place. Basically the Jets are 1 injury away from destruction at all times.

Tannebaum is a fucking idiot, that's why. We're going to have the same team as last year, and we're already seeing that, now. The one glaring problem with this team is the OL, and what do they do, they bring in another average QB.

This is fascinating. So let me ask this. Do our prpblems stem from mis-management?

Of course. Thats all there is to it.

The NFL has a salary cap which means you have to build a team smartly and strategicaly to get the most bang out of every buck you spend.

The Jets have numerous guys like Santonio, Pace, Scott, Cro, HUNTER, Sanchez to name some, who don't give you proper production per the money spent on them.

I'm not saying all the above guys are useless but all are overpaid.

If you have too many overpaid guys on a salary-capped roster, it only stands to reason that youre gonna have some holes. So we dont have a number 2 or 3 WR.

We have no TE that can block

We have no RT, no back-up center, an aging RG

We have no RB that anyone can truly call a number 1

Though debateable, I'm not sure we have a number 1 QB

    Tannenbaum is NOT GM material

i think it's too early to go w the general consensus around here. I think it's largely an overreaction (or potentially an overreaction) to and handful of series in 1 preseason game.

Very True - but if any of those teams lose a reciever or an offensive lineman they will be just fine. If the Jets lose 1 starting reciever or 1 starting lineman (other than Wayne Hunter) the Jets will be doomed. Jets can't even score a TD without Holmes on the field and he is a #2 reciever on most teams. If the Jets lose Mangold or Brick or Moore or even Slawson their O-Line will be a gateway to sack Sanchez on every play. Doomesday for the season. All cause ownership is trying to save a few bucks and not pay for decent backups.

YES. We have an accountant playing GM. The rest of the front office either chose to ignore our holes or thinks we don't have any. If it's the latter we're in really bad shape.

One move this offseason shows the complete ineptitude of the front office. We sign Drew Stanton, a perfect backup for Sanchez. Won't challenge for the job but can fill in if need be. What do we do a few days later? Trade for Tebow. A guy with a cult like following, who won't just take snaps away from Sanchez but will be the focus of the media. Not to mention the focus of fans who will want him to start once Sanchez throws a pick. Stanton gets traded because he's upset so now we have a backup who can't play in an NFL offense and a marginal NFL'er in Mcelroy as our backup QB's.

That's not even going into the mismanagement of almost every other position. As others have said in many positions we're one injury away from disaster.

Seriously, can we at least wait for the season to start before we bury the 2012 jets? People are taking a preseason game way too seriously.

Perhaps, but not much has changed for the better since last season... and we all know how that turned out.

You can be a fan and not be happy with the moves made by your team or the way it acts. That's allowed.

Now I'm no braintrust but did you see anything last year that showed AFC conference game material? Last year's team was worse on paper than the previous 2 years' teams and played a lot like it. We addressed none of the weaknesses from last year. We have no depth and no game breakers on offense. Can I ask you what makes this team worthy of this years' AFC conference game?

I will agree with you that Edwards is wayyyy overrated by a lot here, but the fact is his production hasn't been replaced yet and that is management's job to do.
