If Rex knocks us out of the playoffs, would this season be considered a colossal failure? If the season ended today, we are 10-5 with our destiny in our own hands. I think that 100% of the fans on the board would take that proposition if we were asked before game 1. If we lose, and I hate to use this term, but wouldn't this the epitome of Same Old Jets? I'm confident that we will beat the Bills in convincing fashion, but the idea of losing Sunday makes me sick.
The idea of losing does make me sick however I don't have the anxious worried feeling I've often had going into crucial games for the Jets. That's because the Jets are hot on both sides of the ball and I think they'll find a way to beat the Bills on the road. Nothing that happens on Sunday could make the season a failure at this point. We're +6 on wins over last year and if we missed the playoffs at 10-6, well that's just the breaks.
Colossal failure? No. Colossal missed opportunity? Yes. I think we would look back and see it as a good season with an extremely bitter end. The epitome of SOJ is 100% correct.
We went from a 4-12 shit show circus act run by a loud mouthed snake oil selling carnival barker ( and gross sexual deviant) to a well tuned 10-5 team one win from the playoffs, run by a quiet, professional, even keeled coach able to make adjustments who's being talked about for Coach of the Year. Failure?
We had colossal shrimp we were going to cook last night but we had too much food. So we're making them tonite. That's the only colossal thing I can think of right now. _
I wouldn't know. I do know this team flat out stunk the past 2 years. Just because they couldn't turn a terrible team into a superbowl winner over the offseason doesn't mean not making the playoffs is a colossal failure. That's absurd. Whether we make it or not this season has been absolutely tremendous but as always a lot of Jets fans want to focus on what we didn't get or didn't win instead of looking at what this team actually accomplished. You don't build a contender in free agency or with a single draft. Those teams are usually fluke anyway.
I shouldn't have to explain this, but I am fully confident that the Jets will win Sunday. I have full confidence in the organization, including Woody Johnson hiring a team of consultants to find a GM and HC. I trust Mike Mac. I trust Todd Bowles. It was just a hypothetical that popped into my head with two days of waiting until the game starts. (This is directed at everyone, not just you.) With that said... A loss on Sunday would further the trope of the same old Jets. A snake bitten organization that finds a new and inventive way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. A team that has not kept up with the Patriots since the mid 90's. A team that continually whiffs in the draft. Again people. It was a hypothetical question.
I have a love/hate relationship with shrimp. I love the taste, but the turdy vein ruins the experience. It's not like you taste the shrimp turd, but you know that it was there, or still is.
It's easy to clean shrimp. Just shell them and then take a knife and make a cut down the back and voila, no more gut. You get to feed your cats shrimp shells also and that's even more fun.
The idea of losing to Rex and the Bills makes me sick as well, but it's possible. In no way, shape or form would this be the SOJ unless the Jets just didn't show up to play or played emotionless and flat like the Panthers vs Atlanta last week. If the Jets were to lose in that fashion, I think we'd see more roster turnover during the next couple of years than perhaps we otherwise would. Buffalo has talent and we know that Rex has the ability to occasionally come up with great game plans and motivate his players. We know that Fitz is capable of throwing interceptions. Injuries to key players happen. Hopefully, we don't lose, and I don't think we will, but if we do, so be it. The Jets have had a great season and exceeded any reasonable expectations. Before the season began, no one in their right mind would have expected the Jets to finish in the top 10 in both offense and defense. No one, would have expected the Jets to have the offense we've had this year. Even one-third to one-half way into the season, some of our posters were claiming that Bowles and Gailey were trash and should be fired. Bowles had a lot of things working against him with the team this season. He had to try to change the laissez-faire, undisciplined culture that existed under Rex where players were not held accountable. He had huge question marks on his OL and at QB. He had a very inconsistent punter and no PR/KR. Richardson was suspended and then arrested. Ik punched out Geno. Mo Wilk wanted a new deal and hadn't gotten it. Before the season even began, they lost some key depth at safety. They lost other players for the season, including WRs Devin Smith and Chris Owusu. He was a rookie HC and he and his staff had never worked together before. The team had new systems and philosophies in place. They started the season hot, then Gailey tried to get too cute with the offense, and they faced adversity. Bowles remained calm and confident, diagnosed the problem and with a steady hand corrected it, and the team resumed its winning ways. This is NOT the SOJ. I'm not saying that you think it is, and can understand why you asked the question. Undoubtedly, however, if the Jets do lose to the Bill some of our posters, fans and probably the media will proclaim this is the SOJ. If so, they should permanently ban themselves from following the Jets.
