How many deep balls has the O thrown all year?

I can't remember one. Maybe I'm just looking at it pessimistically after 3 straight losses, but I saw that "estimating the value of edwards" thread, and I think it was spot on.

Edwards was good for 1 or 2 long balls a game, and right now we just don't have anyone who can stretch the field. he didn't always catch them, but at least the threat was there. The protection was ok yesterday, so it wasn't like sanchez didn't have the time to throw deep.

I know it isn't the biggest problem the jets have now, but it is definitely a glaring one. maybe I'm just grasping at straws...

It's Pennington and Hackett all over again. Dink and Dunk, and throw a 9 yard pass when we need 10. Kill me.

We don't get that close when we need 10, are you kidding? We're more about getting 6 or maaaaybe 7. 9 would be an upgrade on 3rd and 10.

And no, I don't recall seeing any deep throws this year.. Hell, we barely try any 15-20 yard plays anymore. It's all the same old Shittenheimer garbage over and over and over.

We threw a 15 yard out to Plax last night but he could not keep his feet in. Plax also dropped another depper 15 yard throw

Another good question, how the hell are we supposed to be throwing the deep ball when Hunter may as well be taking tickets to the QB as DE's rush by, it would slow them down more than his blocking.

Edwards torched us last year. Was glad to see him leave the Jets. What you guys got as replacements are slow. Thus no deep passes. Sanchez actually throws a good deep ball, but now he doesn't have anyone to throw it too.

Getting more play for Kerley is probably your best bet, although he doesn't have Edward's size.

You are 100% right. I haven't seen one deep pass this year! At least throw a few down the field to keep the defenses honest. Horrible.

We are lacking big plays, BIG time. We need more homeruns, without a doubt we are missing Edwards for this.

Those long balls saved us in a few games last season, and could have been the difference between victory/defeat in at least 2 of the games we lost.

Are you paging him because you need soemone to go get drunk with, or because those 4 catches for 48 yards in two games before his injury look sexy to you? He provides noting to this offense that Palx does not. Edwards is vastly over rated and got the shit deal he did in San fran for a reason.

We simple do not have a deep threat at WR, Kerley is shifty not fast. Holmes is a YAC guy and Plax is a possession receiver. We need speed on the outside, Braylon had speed so he was the one catching the deep throws. We just don't have that. We need to draft Al Davis(RIP) style, speedy receiver and a safety with speed and coverage skills.

We NEVER open the field ever. I was watching the Packers-Falcons game last night and both teams were just passing 20 yard passes like it was nothing. When it comes to the Jets its all these little 5 yard routes, why cant we run 15 yard routes alot more often. It would put the defense on its heels and would also make it easier for those short passes.

It just pissed me off watching this offense. We dont do a god damn thing at all.

Notice I didn't include Mason cause I think he sucks, let Kerley play, he's our future.

Theirs one guy that comes to mind that has decent speed and is still a free agent. I dare not say his name though.

He is? Becasue he has not been used that way at previous stops in his career. The guy has averaged 15.5 pre catch for his career, with a high of 19.9 his last season in pittsburgh. Numbers almost identical to what Edwards has done. Its not Plax as a player thats keep us from going deep. Its the style of the offense.

You can blame it on Shotty or a lack of protection, but we do not throw the deep ball. Its not like we do not have the weapons to. Holems speed and Palx's size both make them viable targets for a deep hit, but the chances are not there. Our pass pro has been spotty at best and we have a over zealous need to stay on track for 3 and short which we don't convert anyway. Its not about the guys outside.

You're talking about Plax from a few years ago bro, he's not that guy now. He barely get separation from defenders, he also had Eli who had an OC who designs pass plays over 15 yards.

On a side note, how is it possible that the NFL doesn't have a stat anywhere showing attempts and completions based on distance? I could have swore I saw it somewhere before.

You are wrong. Edwards is not over rated. He is a very talented WR. He was very good in a run heavy offense, but now in SF, he doesn't have a QB to get him the ball.

5000+ yards in his first 6 years is NOT over rated, besides considering he had Derek Anderson and a rookie throwing him the ball along with run heavy offenses last two years.

Plax is not the deep threat that Edwards was for you guys. He wasn't that fast (for a WR) before spending two years in prison.

    Ahha, I found it.

So 13 total attempts beyond 20 yards, lol. Average of 2.6 per game. I wonder how many of those came in the 2 minute offense.
