Do you have high, moderate, low or no patience for these players listed below? Stephen Hill Geno Smith Dee Milliner Brian Winters
Everyone but Smith. Dee miss OTAs, camp, and several games this season. He needs a full offseason. Winters shows potential but OL is something they can pick up in FA and let this guy grow. Hill needs a QB to get him the ball. He started off solid but as Smith has regressed he has been forgotten Smith - this 5 week regression is just bad. His confidence looks shaken, his demeanors of, and he isn't even doing the little things well.
High with all but Hill. It is very easy to forget the Geno is a rookie and has played in 10 total NFL games. Give the guy a break. He's making mistakes a rookie will make. With guys like Andrew Luck, RG3, and Russell Wilson, people think that all QB's will jump into the NFL and produce from day one. The old way is to allow him to learn an NFL system game by game.
Stephen Hill - Low. Hill was marketed as big and fast, yet none of these attributes have been shown. Geno Smith - Low. Geno is a 2nd round draft pick, so he's a on a shorter leash. I dont see much upside with Geno, Jets definitely need to explore others options now and during the offseason. It's frustrating how Geno doesnt score for the Jets, however, scores well for the opposing team. Dee Milliner - High. Milliner has been injured and hasnt played much games, let him cook. Brian Winters - High. I havent really notice Winters but I'm optimistic.
DONE with Hill. Patience with Geno on the roster, DONE with him as a starter right now. Let him compete in the 2014 TC with someone please. Patience with Milliner. Hopefully he looks great in 2014. Patience with Winters. Should be a solid player.
It's 2009 all over again. High-highs and low-lows. The running game has to get established or we falter.
High on all. 3 guys are rookies and the other guy we all knew was a project coming out. Still can't teach speed and height. To be fair, I was also patient with Vlad and Gholston too. _
still high on all. reserving judgement on hill till year 3. needs better qb play and more time with 1 system winters ,dee and geno all get rookie passes. anyone losing patience now had unreal expectations coming into the year
I said this on a baseball board two months ago. The Jets did everything right from a franchise planning standpoint except one thing. They got rid of dead wood. They cleaned up their budget. And they decided to develop and play young players. The one thing they did that was very high risk was playing Geno. From get go, he just didn't seem like a QB who could step right in. I have no idea if he has the skills and make-up to become a successful QB in the NFL but playing him as a rookie was not the way to find out. He needed a year with a clipboard. Now, he's impossible to evaluate. Does he not have what it takes? Or has he been improperly rushed? Who the hell knows? Moreover, rushing someone like Geno may permanently damage him. This is a shame, because the Jets did everything else right. Including hiring MM.
This is what we all expected out of this team this year. If you didn't, than you should have. There are few times when a rookie comes in and performs great. It takes time for these guys to gel and become solid starters. As for Hill, I have no idea. But the others are understandable.
The fact is the Jets have little choice but to hope at least two of these players stick, because they can only add so many positions to the goodies list when the draft comes around next off season. If Holmes goes and Hill does not step up, does that mean they need TWO wideouts? If Milliner does not make it, you can watch yet another year when the Jets have to go high draft pick at CB, and I would not be surprised to see them do it even if Milliner does stick, since they may well part ways with Cro. As for the OL, the Jets imo have been somewhat lucky that Colon has been in the lineup all season long, what with his injury history, so yeah, they need Winters to stick as well and still might have to go OL in the draft next year. As for Qb, if Simms does not play well, the Jets might also need TWO Qb's. As for the four mentioned, I think there are too many questions about Smith to hold Hill to too much responsibility, so I can't say about him. Winters is having issues for sure, but I sense he will make it. With some bumps on the road no doubt. Milliner not making it is simply too scary to contemplate. So I have to think he's going to improve (I know that is not logical, but sometimes logic fails me. Heh.) Smith? I will not call him a bust, yet, but he inspires the least confidence of this group so far.
I'm still patient with all. Hill has basically been asked to be a #1 receiver for much of this season, when he's not anywhere near ready. On a decent roster he'd be developing steadily while seeing limited playing time. It easy to be frustrated with him because of where he was drafted, but he was and remains a project that probably will never become a genuine #1, which is not the same as saying he can't become a capable NFL receiver. Milliner it's way too early, but he needs to start showing some development soon. Ditto Winters. Geno has shown talent but equally continues to make mistakes that can't be continually waved away because he's a rookie. We might all be hoping to get the answer on him this season, but realistically the development is not happening quickly enough for us to get it.
Hill - Frustrated a lot, I don't expect 800 yard seasons out of him, but not 400 yards. Geno - Rookie QBs do this. He shouldn't have been starting as this will kill his confidence. I'm starting to doubt his ability to read the field fast enough and make good decisions. He definitely has the arm strength and toughness. Winters - He's awful. He could be a pro bowler one day, but he is terrible. He is the reason Geno has 1 less second to throw on almost every play. Milliner - Corner is a tough position to thrive in as a rookie. He looks bad, but he could still be a baller in a few years.
I would not cut any of them this year at least. I would like to see Winters on the field as the alternative is Ducasse. The other guys can ride the bench if the coaching staff feels that they are not playing up to par (except Geno who should be handcuffed to the bench with a ball duct taped to his hands).
Hill I dont think will ever live up to his 2nd round pick. Can he be decent yes probably but never the kind of wr we were looking for when we made that pick. Smith Im not sure. Hes not ready but he is a rookie thrown into the fire so its tough to judge him to toughly despite his poor season so far. Milliner hasn't played well but pretty much no rookie ever does. He's physically very talented. I just want to see him stay healthy the rest of the season and I will feel alot better about him going into next year. Winters has moments he looks very good. Other moments he gets beat. I think he will be a starter for us going forward. I think worst case he is Slauson 2. Best case a bit better than that.
High on all, but Hill. I know we're New York fans and we demand excellence right away but we werent even supposed to be relevant this season. You guys gotta chill and let it play out. Geno- all my support is still there, but definitely needs to show he can be better. Milliner- As much as I want him to never step on the field again, he has shown in some flashes he can get the job done so I'll let him develop. Winters- He's been solid since taking the job, little missteps here and there. He's a rook Stephen Hill needing a QB is laughable. Stephen Hill needs a seat on the bench. Kids terrible, sorry.
Cant teach athleticism, and Hill doesnt have that. Massive difference between athleticism and being a track athlete. Hill falls into the later. Im ready to call him a bust. I dont think Ive seen a more uncoordinated WR. Plus, Santonio Holmes has a wider catching radius even though he's 5 inches shorter.
