I really like the kid and feel with the right training he could be a good QB, but haven't heard much about him so far.

Does anyone know if Ainge is doing okay and what are your opinions of the guy so far?

He hasn't taken many snaps due to injury. Ratliff looks like our 3rd QB... I believe they'll place Ainge on the IR.

    ir? what is his injury?

if its not serious would it be better to have him on the practice squad so he can get some things done this year?

I thought I read somewhere that he looked pretty shaky so far...if I remember correctly. On the other hand, I did read good things about Ratliff.

I can tell you that Ainge is the tallest QB we have in camp. Use that info in whatever way you'd like.

If he gets put on practice squad, he will be snapped up by another team in a heartbeat.

My prediction is unless we go and get a FA QB, Ainge will win the starting job sometime next season.

Based on Ratliffs performances so far, it sounds like they're either going to have to carry 4 QB's or put Ainge on IR. Is there any other way to "protect" a player?

He threw a INT yesterday, i remember reading that. He has had very limited time so far, so hard to get a good read of him, but going by college as thats all we can really right now, he should be a solid NFL QB, nothing spectacular but with the right coaching he should do quite well, look for him more next TC than this though.

Kid is smart with above average talent. It will be some time before he can prove himself, but I would not expect him to be a complete NFL-bust.

my bad i didnt realize he could get picked up off our practice squad, thought he had some protection being on the practice squad.

well hopefully he gets tendinitis or something then :)

Him staying on the Jets as a back up his whole career would not be a bust. He is a 5th rounder. Only way to be a bust really would be to be cut this early in camp.

Yeah, I guess you're right. But I liked him in college, maybe one day he'll get a shot, who knows.

With all the begging the Jets have done to try and land Brett, it is clear they have no faith in Chad and Kellen can't even win the job from Chad which doesn't help his case any.

The Jets will have a new starting QB next season unless a miracle happens.

I am hopening that miracle is Erik Ainge. I liked him in college and with the right system he could be successful.

Ainge was warming up today with Clemens directly in front of the Visiting bleachers. He has all of the tools. He is tall, and actually has a rocket on his shoulder. With a flick of his wrist, he was throwing 25-35 yard ropes. Very impressive. Much more so than Clemens, who is supposed to have a big arm. Of course he doesn't know the offense and is a rookie, but keep an eye on him. He is going to be a good one.

Maybe we'll even steal a page from Bellicheat and let him practice during the week.
