I've watched every ESPN and NFL Network show and heard what every so-called expert say how we can’t win. I completely disagree. I truly think we can win, I’m sure you feel the same way. What I want to know now is how you think we will win.
The steelers offense is garbage. The Ravens flat out handed the Steelers 28 points off of turnovers. Simple, don't turn the ball over and play good defense= win.
Daryl Johnston picked us to win, One of the SI writers also picked us I think Hack. Hell even Cowher this morning was really high on us So far Kurt Warner and Prisco (CBS) picked the Steelers Were gonna hvae great Field Position, cause Pitt is not good in KO coverage. Were going to limit them to FG and Force a TO and than just shorten the Game like we have the 1st 2 games and come out on top
All of the above. Throw out all the stops. None of those ideas is radical, we've been doing them all all year. I would blitz a lot more than we did the last two weeks, because it often takes more than one guy to bring Ben down and because he holds the ball longer trying to make a bigger play. We have to play coverage sometimes for sure. And if we blitz a lot, he might get confused if we start blitzing less guys and playing more coverage. It's always hard to say what the best option is. But to me, we need to keep a healthy mix of running and throwing the ball. Throwing the ball is the best way to move the ball on Pittsburgh, but if Sanchez starts off wild again, and Polamalu is around, we could be down 10-0 heading into our 2nd possession. It's tough because we need to run the ball because it makes our offense run better and because it gains yards with a very low risk of turning the ball over. But Pittsburgh is great at taking it away. The bottom line to this game is Sanchez needs to play well. Pittsburgh will do a good job against our running game, so Sanchez will need to make a number of plays in this game. Once that happens, our running game will open up more, and hopefully we can do a good job in the 4th quarter and ice away a victory. And special teams needs to be a win for us. Weatherford and Smith almost won us the game last time by themselves. Last week, Weatherford was god-awful, and Smith didn't even play. The drop-off from Smith to Cromartie is very, very low, so I'm not worried about that. I am worried about Weatherford's confidence after back-to-back bad games. He was great last time at Heinz Field. We need to pin Pittsburgh inside the 10 when our drives stall out around midfield. Not give them the ball at the 20. Make them drive the extra yards, and all offenses are always more conservative deep inside their own territory to prevent turnovers.
I believe we will throw the ball. And catch it. Also run with it. And try to stop Pittsburgh from successfully doing the same.
Now, ya see, when a player has the ball in their hands, and they run into the end zone with it. That's called a touchdown, so their team gets 6 points. If ya get more of those than the other team, you're pretty sure to win that particular football game.
Forget blitzing a lot more. We generated pressure from a 3 man rush with a mixture of coverages, and I expect we'll do the same again. The biggest difference is, I fully expect someone to spy Big Ben. The problem isn't trying to bring Ben down, the problem is what happens when he gets outside of the pocket. I want one of our linebackers playing soft coverage underneath and unloading as soon as Ben breaks containment. He doesn't throw on the run. He's not a huge threat when he runs the ball. He's a threat when he gets outside, resets, and exploits the broken play. I want a LB in pursuit when he's outside his blockers. Blitzing hasn't worked well against the Steelers this season because of Ben's propensity to create big plays. You get some sacks on him, as always, but with Mike Wallace, he's been able to burn teams just enough for his defense to hold the lead. We need a new approach, just like we did against New England. Agreed. Greene's YPC wasn't great going into the 4th quarter, but it clearly wore that defense down. Pittsburgh is obviously better against the run, but we're not abandoning our game plan. Pitt's corners are weak, comparatively speaking. Polamalu is off. Still great, but a bit off right now. I like our chances in the passing game if we're keeping to around 25 attempts. Greene's the key. Even with Hampton, I'd much rather run up the middle against Pitt than try to gain the edge against Harrison and Woodley. If we use Greene up the middle and keep jamming those two with our outside blockers early, it may open up room for LT to run outside against a tired D late. Still, like you said, it's really going to come down to Sanchez. We've done a great job of protecting him in the last few weeks, but the pressure we can expect is going to have an effect. Hopefully he settles down early again like last week. He'll certainly start slow, but the CS has done a great job of getting him calmed down and up to speed quickly in the past two weeks. Yeah, Weatherford needs to be money again. Hopefully Smith is back up to speed. Last week, his roster spot went to McKnight and the only play he was involved in was a freaking end around. Not like anyone saw that coming.
The Jets have outrushed their opponents in 16 of the 18 games they have played in this year. I also like the fact that they lead the NFL on defense with 62- 3 and outs. If they get the steelers offense off the field, and then run the ball well, that will open it up for the Jets to pass well too which will lead to points. They can control this game, i would love to see a great start right off the bat in the 1st.
To be honest I think our defense is going to completely shut downt the Steelers offense. I predict a game like 20-7 Jets.
We have the talent and coaching to win the game, we just need to keep the mistakes down to a minimum like we have been doing the last 2 weeks. -No turnovers -No giving up the big play -Limit penalties -Get to the QB -Control the clock -Score TDs and not FGs
No mistakes and Sanchez is key. Both teams will have a hard time running the ball. If Sanchez play a good game we will win. Our defense should take care of the rest. Mix it up but I'd like to see us play coverage and force them to run the ball. Its funny how some steelers fans think big ben will have a field day with "speedy" receivers. Sorry not happening. Just ask Brady and Manning. Our secondary is playing lights out.
I want Revis on Wallace the entire game. Eliminate Wallace from the game, and the Steelers offense isn't the sane. I also want Revis on Hines Ward during 3rd & 2 / 3rd & 5 types of situations. Ward is much better than Wallace in terms of picking up the tough 3rd down. I'm confident with Cromartie on Wallace in those situations. Wallace may of had 90+ yards last meeting, but it wasn't against either Revis or Cromartie. Wallace only had 30 something yards against Cro. We also have to stick to Heath Miller like white on rice. If we could contain both Gronkowski and Hernandez, I'm confident with out ability to limit Miller. We have to confuse Ben in the same types of ways that we confused Brady. Show blitz before the play & back off into coverage after the snap. Never let Roethlisberger know where the pressure is coming from. Show zone coverage before the play and drop off into man to man defense after the snap. Show a man to man look before the play and drop off into zone coverage after the snap of the ball.
