Off-season and I don't know what the fuck else to talk about.. So I ask this question... How did you become a fan of the New York Football Jets? I lived in New York most of my life, and me and my dad would always go to this pizza spot around the corner from our house, order chicken parm subs, and go back home and watch the Jets. I was still young at this point, so I was not really fanatical yet.. I was probably 7 or 8 at this point. Fast forward to 2004 (age 14), and the Ravens came to town to take on the Jets.. My very first Jets game and my dad brought me a Curtis Martin jersey and I thought I was the coolest kid in the stadium... That was the game that Lamont Jordan tossed that pass to Ed Reed in the endzone, and he proceeded to take it 100 yards the other way -_-.. This was the turning point for me, as I could not get enough of the Jets.. To this day, me and my dad get together every Sunday and watch the Jets together.. What is even more cool, is my 2 year old son watches with us as well. Three generations of Jet fans every Sunday watching the Green and White go to war... Some of the best moments of my life fellas.
I just kind of fell into it, I don't live in the city or anything, don't have any friends or family that are Jets fans. I just wanted to get into watching football and the Jets just seemed like the right fit for me. I could have picked any team and I ended up a Jets fan...at least some of you have excuses...for me I'm evidently just not all that smart.
As a younger kid I liked the Cowboys because of Roger Staubach, and the Steelers a bit because of Terry Bradshaw. Then when I was around I guess 10-12 years old I saw Gastineau dance around like a madman after a sack, and that was it. I was all about the Jets and the New York Sack Exchange from then on. I never really knew anything about Gastineau except that he was an awesome player, so I never undersatood the mixed feelings toward him from other fans. To me he will just be the dominant DE that celebrated like a looney after every sack, which is fine and dandy.
Jbizz ,,,one of my best friends growing up ,,,,father had season tix,,,,brought me to games now and then at Shea,,,,,can't for the life of me remember the very first one,,,but I saw many many games,,,the few that standout were watching O J Simpson shred us a few times and also it seems like I saw the Seahawks a few times and each time Jim Zorn and Steve Largent were doing us in,,,,,,I also saw many good games and wins,,,,,I also remember the flying lawn mowers at halftime ,,,that was before they crashed into crowds ,,,,,,
The year was 1979, I was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and my dad took me to a pre-season Jets vs Giants game. We loved the game so much my dad tried getting Giants season tickets. as they played the Cowboys every year, but they basically laughed at him as they were sold out for years. So dad asks me if he should try and get Jets tickets, of course I said yes. They basically said we could sit in the owners box if we wanted. My dad not really being into football was asked, "where would you like to sit", and all he knew was the 50 yard line was mid field so we wound up with 4 seats at Shea on the 47 yard line , 2nd & 3rd row right behind the Jets.
My grandfather was invited to help coach at a wrestling clinic (mid 80's) near State College, PA and it just so happened Mickey Shuler was there as a speaker. My grandfather got a signed picture of Shuler for me that says "Adrian, Keep the Faith." Mickey Shuler. Once he gave it to me (I was around 7-8 years old) it hooked me into becoming a Jets fan. I live in Maryland and the Colts left a few years before I started getting into football. So the Jets it was.
My friends were Jet fans. Family were Giant fans. I became a Jet fan, who roots for the Giants above everyone but the Jets.
I started as a casual fan then became a Jet fan officially in 2002. That season and that run that Chad was on hooked me.
Thats about it for me to as well. Was around my uncles house and he was watching the Patriots v Jets. He was rooting for the Patriots so i decided to root against him. Stuck with the Jets ever since. Oh would could have been The ironic thing is that sooo many English people pick the New England Patriots because it has England in the name. Oh the irony of that.
Born into it so had no say in the matter. Was already completely brainwashed into Gang Greendom by the time I could truly figure out if I really liked the team or not.
I was born into this shit My dad always says "you can like whatever team you want", but no. Once your born into it, you can't change
I was 9 and my older brother took me over to Hofstra one day in August to watch the Jets in camp. Everyone was on the field for 20 minutes or so, people were just milling around, no excitement in the air. Then all of a sudden there was a palpable buzz when the locker room door opened up and this tall mustachioed player in a red pinney and white shoes came out and ambled by right in front of me, and my brother, with a reverence in his voice I can still hear today, said "that's Joe Willie Namath" and I was done. _
