    Jets sign RB Hollings )

    July 31, 2007
HEMPSTEAD, New York (Ticker) - The New York Jets on Tuesday signed free agent running back Tony Hollings.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Running back Cedric Houston left the team for personal reasons last week, leaving an opening on the Jets' depth chart.

Hollings, a second-round pick in the 2003 supplemental draft, has rushed for 149 yards on 49 carries in three seasons with the Houston Texans.

The former Georgia Tech standout also had seven receptions for 71 yards. He sat out last season after being waived by the Indianapolis Colts just prior to the start of the season.

So you don't have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington running the ball 20x in an exhibition game.

    Hollins

I live in GA and have for the past 14 years. Hollins was a G-Tech kid and a stud at that. Broke his leg and instead of coming back for another year left early (got some bad advice). Texans took him high in the supplemental draft but he wasn't healthy and couldn't compete - then again who could with that O-line down there. Not saying this guy is the second coming but no reason not to tak a shot at a talented, and now fully healed, 25 year old with very little mileage on him. A much better fit than Fisher...

Houston's replacement is Tony Fisher who we signed a few days ago...not Hollings.

Wow, I didn't know that...thanks for the link. I thought Fisher was gonna make the team and contribute.

Yeah, he does seem to have potential and should not be overlooked.

Houston's replacement may have already been on the rsoter. Andre Ware is sounding very impressive so far. Obviously they brought in another RB for training camp's sake, but it sounds like Ware is the front runner for the #3 spot right now.

They can cure all of this by signing Steve Slaton this year if he's eligible...
I'm done with all the drama surrounding the Jet's running game. Enough is enough. Get a blue chip RB and move on already.

    Time's a wastin..

Danny Ware*. You made me double take for a second there, it sure would be something to see Andre Ware giving RB a shot here with the Jets. Hell, they brought Wadsworth back.

We just traded for Thomas Jones. Did you forget? He should be the starter in New York for at least 4 more seasons...and you can't sign rookies, you have to draft them, so I don't know how we could sign Steve Slaton. Slaton is a great college running back in an awesome college offensive system, but I don't think he's gonna be as successful in the pros. He'll probably end up getting drafted late on the first day because of his size and he'll be labeled a system player. The Jets are gonna be a team that's gonna win a lot of games every year from here on out, so I can't see the Jets drafting a stud RB unless someone slips into the 23-32 range.
