we are starting to hear the "house money" theory here in NY and many of you would be surprised that, IMO, its bullshit....... for most of this year i have patiently watched and squirmed at the jets and ripped a few assholes along the way with the comfort knowing that they are on the 15 year plan and will be ready to seriously challenge in 012 or 013..... whats not to be excited for - good, almost great D, franchise QB, aggressive coach who gets it...... well folks these chances do not come around often and seeing your team come together at crunch time can distort whatever theory you subscribe to. we may be RIGHT NOW watching the process unfold itself which brings the jets to the head of the class now, at least for the AFC east. so i denounce the "house money" theory and say F that - do not listen to the media crap - especially from know it all francessa. this team has a legitimate shot. look at the AZ cardinals last year - always perennial losers that came thru with a decent year and rode it to the SB and almost won - now the tide has turned and they are considered legitimate and likely perennial NFC contenders going forward. we can do the same. enjoy, jil
The only sense I see 'house money' is the sense that if the Jets win, I will be elated... If they lose, I will not be pissed; It was still a great season and a great building block. NOT playing with 'house money' would mean "They lost? Oh my god, they suck... they're doomed !!"
Yeah, house money relates solely to whether you're up even if you lose. This season is a success for the Jets at this point so it's hard to think they're not deep into the house bank at this point. One counterpoint would be that the trenches are not young for the Jets and so this is probably one of our best, if not our best shot at a Super Bowl over the next few seasons. From that perspective a loss would really suck. It's hard to argue though that anybody thought the Jets were going to the divisional round of the playoffs in an odd year or that they'd have their first back to back winning seasons since 2001-2002.
