    Per rotoworld:

This could get interesting. We're definitely going to have to battle some other teams to sign him.

He's arguably the best available free agent at his position.

I didn't think we could because of the 30% rule?

Yeah, this is a completely obvious statement they released. It's essentially like releasing a statement saying he won't play for under $2 million per.

Can't worry about Holmes or Edwards. Rumors are everyone wants to play here. They already have, so they know what its like. If they chase money over being here and winning a championship, I don't want them on the team anyway. I think both want to be here though.

An obvious statement that might be an attempt to spike other team's interest in him.

    ...fucking sneaky agents.

Holmes is going to be tricky IMO. He already has a ring, thinks extremely highly of himself(it appears), tweaked Schotty after the AFCCG loss(even though we agree), he also may want to play with a more 'established QB', and loves blazing weed.

He is probably going for the money, and may not really care about another Superbowl trip.

    Weed isn't expensive.

I'd prefer Edwards at this point, he might be more motivated IMO(no ring, loves NYC).

Don't get me wrong, I want both back, but if it came down, Braylon/Cotch/Whoever would be fine with me.

If we lost Holmes, we'd be grabbing a receiver in the draft and probably signing an inexpensive vet. I'd MUCH prefer to have him back, but I'd be ok with that as well.

I expected his agents to release something like this. Of course they'll want other teams jumping in and offering him money, that's the name of the business. His agents want to find out Holmes' going rate this season and get the best deal available. That's what they're paid to do. Ultimately it will be Holmes' decision, but having other teams interested in him, which drives up his market price, will help during his negotiations.

I agree, I honestly think that our offense was fine before Holmes joined in

Braylon and Keller played very well together and with Cotch as a solid #2 we can find a slot WR

If Holmes wants to be overpaid to a point where we can't sign anyone else then so be it

But this is not a shock considering the whole CBA crapfest

    Holmes wont be back.

    hes seeing dollar signs

has anyone seriously any reason to believe otherwise? cuz he invented the plane celebration he loves it here?

Holmes wont be worth what he will drive the price up to. dont act surprised

and I really wont care as long as we can keep Edwards in the process

durr I did, I dont see how what I typed indicated that I hadnt.

were talking about the implications of him hitting FA right?

and im saying i dont expect him back and IMO hes not worth what he will drive his asking price up to.

and the fact hes hitting FA is being made news as if Holmes was gaga over the Jets to begin with.

    Our offense wasnt exactly fine.

We beat up on a bottom ranked new england defense, a terrible buffalo team, and a pathetic Miami team (yeah they were a top defense, but almost a 3rd of Sanchezs 250 recieving yards came off Braylon pretty much being uncovered on a single play). After getting completely stonewalled by the Ravens in week 1 of course.

And ended the season with the 22nd ranked passing offense. We lose Holmes and theres a good chance we end up near the bottom of the league in passing again

And its not like our passing game was good the year before either. We were the 31st ranked passing offense in the nfl that year

This offense was far from consistent all year, and IF we lost Holmes our offense would have to go back to the 2009-2010 season. Which would mean those epic game winning Sanchez drives against Houston/Detroit/Cle/Indy/Denver are gonna be far less likely without Holmes around.

And we cant truly rely on our ground game either. LT ran out of gas last year, nobody knows if McKnight is ready to play, and Greene rarely produced until the end of the season.

I hate to say it but im convinced that Holmes will make or break this offense for next season.

I prefer Edwards. His blocking alone is worth more then all the Holmes drops! Holmes dropped more passes then Braylon by a wide margin. he can think highly of himself in Oakland! let him go. I will take Edwards any day!

Make or break? Sanchez will be in his 3rd year in the same system, hopefully we can keep Keller involved all season long and not just in the first 5 games or so ... if we can get him involved and keep his confidence up, I have no doubt he can finally have his breakout year ...

Braylon has the talent to be a top tier WR in this league and will only get better as Sanchez improves

If we can find a young burner with some good hands, we can still put up big plays

Of course the offense wouldn't be as dynamic as it was last year, but maybe we can be more consistent and we won't have to wait until the last drive to win a game, we weren't converting in the red-zone, we need to get better at doing so

    Holmes has scary jaundice eyes.

That being said, I would love to see him back in green. At the right price though.

Edwards was clutch down the stretch and if we don't sign Holmes that does free up a lot of extra cash we didn't expect to have.

Can you realistically expect Sanchez to improve THAT MUCH in 1 year that he could offset losing a top 5 WR though ?

That would be a massive improvement.

Not to mention were kind of limited at our ability to get a young burner.

Were missing a 2nd round draft pick, and have huge gaping holes on the defensive line, have significant issues at olb/safety, if we lose Cromartie we also have corner issues, and 2 starting offensive lineman gone in the last 2 years.

Were kinda limited in our ability to go out and just get another wr (let alone an impact one) without completely crippling ourselves

    Yeah I can.

Year 3 is the typical big jump year. We all saw how well Sanchez plays under pressure, when the game really counts. With his experience he knows that every game is a must win and will play accordingly.

If what nyjetscap is reporting regarding the 2011 dead money and cutting players we may be in much better shape than anticipated cap wise.
