For those of you who felt earlier this offseason, that the jets were remiss for not pursuing Austin Davis, fear not. Your savior is on the roster bubble in St. Louis and is projected to be cut soon. The future is upon us. Discuss. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I could see if this was during the beginning of free agency, but where would Davis fit in our current QB depth chart?
I mean, I can't say that I'm NOT down for this. Not to come in here as the savior or the automatic starter because that's lol-worthy and I still actually have some delusional faith in Geno over Fitz. If he's cut soon, we should bring him in to add to the competition. Best man wins starting spot, which is the scenario we need.
You need to keep 4 quarterbacks with this beast available. More touchdowns than interceptions? Sign him up as the 10 year starter.
I wasn't one of the ones gunning for him before but if he becomes available before camp starts why not throw him into the mix and see who comes out on top. That being said, I think St.Louis when all is said and done will keep him over Keenum. More of a case of them knowing what they have with Davis, not a starter but a decent enough back up if needed.
In all honesty though, Austin Davis is one of those guys who pops up appearing half decent because no one's ever gameplanned against him and he simply has nothing to lose so he just slings the ball around. I checked out some of his games on NFL Rewind and he didn't seem like he has the arm strength you need in this league. He'll probably hang around the league as a backup. He had an awkward throwing motion that looks like he'll often sail balls high. He doesn't really possess good enough arm strength when his feet aren't set in a perfect pocket. When he does get a good pocket he has a long delivery because he has to put a lot of his body into his throws to get enough zip on the ball to fit it into coverage. He has good touch but go back and look at some of his tape. He looks like he's going to throw his arm or back out every time he needs to make a high velocity throw. If his feet are offset all the throws look like an interception waiting to happen. He's not the worst prospect in the world, but the arm strength problems aren't fixable. If they were he'd be looked at in a different light around the NFL because he certainly seems like a gamer.
I say we should trade Mo Wilk and a second rounder to Philly, and get the guy that will keep the 13 million and second round pick they spent on Bradford sitting on the bench.
How long before they come up with surgery that re-attaches ligaments and tendons in such a way that arm strength is maximized? I can see it happening. Maybe not for virgin arms but reconstructive surgery after injury may some day result in an arm twice as strong.
