Mike Furrey from the Lions. I think if we bring Coles back and go with Coles, Cotch and Furrey as our top 3 that would give us the depth and we would have three solid guys that no one can really focus on. I know Furrey isn't a free agent but with Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams I think if we offer the Lions something decent for him they may bite to improve in other areas. I would be willing to give up a draft pick maybe a 4 for him or maybe a player like Sean Ellis who is worse of a fit in the 3-4 than Vilmas is.

Furrey seems like a Mangini guy he's smart and works his but off on every play. I know some of you may say we need a number 1 guy which he isn't but if we go with three very good number two's I think it gives us a lot og options.

Here is the scouting report on him:
Furrey has good speed, athleticism and savvy. His work ethic, attitude and relentlessness have made him a player. He has a non-stop motor and very good instincts. He is a converted safety whose aggressiveness and awareness in that role have carried over. He has good straight-line speed and excellent body control. He has the change-of-direction skills and acceleration to burst into and out of his cuts and to separate from coverage. He has a knack for finding soft spots in zone coverage. He knows how to use his body to create passing lanes against man-to-man coverage. He attacks the ball and gives quarterbacks the confidence to throw to him, even against tight coverage. He has good ball skills and will make the catch or prevent a pick. He is a willing, aggressive stalk blocker who will fight to maintain position through the whistle.

    What do you guys think?

I like the idea. Furrey strikes me as the much needed slot receiver we need in the Chrebet/Welker mold.

Well, we need a #1 receiver to have a effective slot receiver. Cotchery and Coles are both good #2s, but they don't scare anybody.

Furrey wouldn't be a bad signing if he comes cheap, but we need a #1 first.

Roy Williams or Chad Johnson....we need a big tall, deep threat with speed...Cotch or Coles in the slot would be more then suitable...

If we could get him for a third round pick I would definitely pull the trigger. I would most likely do it for a second round pick as well

Coles is a top 10 receiver when healthy.

Furrey would make a great #3 along with C&C. Roy Williams would be a great addition, but he fell off a little this year.

We need a good big guy like Keyshawn, he was money in the red zone and we've lacked that ever since.

Screw Furrey, we had him in camp a few years ago and he walked out on us. He doesn't deserve to wear the uniform again.

There is no such thing as a #1 receiver. A #1 receiver is a receiver on a team with a good QB and a good OL that catches a lot of passes for a ton of yards.

Here are the current top 20 WRs in the NFL in yards.
    1 Reggie Wayne WR, IND 92 1423
    2 Randy Moss WR, NWE 92 1393
    3 Terrell Owens WR, DAL 81 1355
    4 Chad Johnson WR, CIN 89 1309
    5 L. Fitzgerald WR, ARI 89 1238
    6 B. Edwards WR, CLE 77 1222
    7 B. Marshall WR, DEN 92 1211
    8 Roddy White WR, ATL 78 1140
    9 Jason Witten TE, DAL 94 1121
    10 M. Colston WR, NOR 90 1108
Tony Gonzalez TE, KAN 92 1108
    12 Torry Holt WR, STL 86 1096
    13 Bobby Engram WR, SEA 90 1082
    14 J. Cotchery WR, NYJ 74 1054
    15 Wes Welker WR, NWE 101 1053
    T. Houshmandzadeh WR, CIN 103 1053
    17 Kevin Curtis WR, PHI 70 1048
Donald Driver WR, GNB 82 1048
    19 K. Winslow TE, CLE 78 1044
    20 Derrick Mason WR, BAL 97 1015

    Here is the 2006 list:

    1 Chad Johnson WR, CIN 87 1369
    2 M. Harrison WR, IND 95 1366
    3 Roy Williams WR, DET 82 1310
Reggie Wayne WR, IND 86 1310
    5 Donald Driver WR, GNB 92 1295
    6 Lee Evans WR, BUF 82 1292
    7 Anquan Boldin WR, ARI 83 1203
    8 Torry Holt WR, STL 93 1188
    9 Terrell Owens WR, DAL 85 1180
    10 Steve Smith WR, CAR 83 1166
    11 Andre Johnson WR, HOU 103 1147
    12 Isaac Bruce WR, STL 74 1098
    L. Coles WR, NYJ 91 1098
    14 Mike Furrey WR, DET 98 1086
    15 Javon Walker WR, DEN 69 1084
    16 T. Houshmandzadeh WR, CIN 90 1081
    17 Joey Galloway WR, TAM 62 1057
    18 Terry Glenn WR, DAL 70 1047
    19 M. Colston WR, NOR 70 1038
    20 P. Burress WR, NYG 63 988

So based on these lists, who is a #1 and who is not?????

I think JMac can be our #1 receiver; he has gifted hands.

Trust me when I say that this isn't aimed at you, JW. I'm just so weary of hearing players and potential players referred to as "Mangini guy" or, worse yet, "Tangini guy." At 3-12, that just seems like so much fluff.

Well look at the Lions wideouts... Calvin Johnson is locked in for a while and was the #2 pick last year. Roy Williams makes this a top WR duo. Mike Furrey looks like the slot guy, but Shaun McDonald had about 70 catches this season.

Somebody from that group, probably Furrey, could be gone. He'd make a good addition, but I doubt the Lions would release him since he has some trade value.

    Link?

I don't know why, they are doing pretty decent this year and it doesn't look like their in danger of getting worse (losing players), but only getting better. Especially if they could finally improve that horrid line.
