-per Rapoport I thought this move was the biggest no brainer and after this season we finally cleared of those bad contracts Macagnan made. I suspect the Jets were doing him a favor letting him hit free agency as I don’t see him fitting Saleh’s defense and his play has declined over the past year to warrant his contract.
Just a formality at this point. We have almost $80 mil. We could trade for Watson and then tell him “choose your three favorite free agents”, then pay them, and still have money left over.
More money to spend on quality FA's. The draft can wait. When they sign some top players then we will know what they are thinking about late April. Good signing mean plug in and play.
This offseason is gonna be fun. A bad ass coaching staff with a GM who knows what the fuck he's doing and 80 million dollars to spend, plus a bundle of draft picks. Buckle up
Sucks that Maccagnan overpaid him because he's a decent enough player and definitely a good guy to throw in the rotation even if the sack numbers haven't been there. Just wasn't worth the money. FYP
Anderson still a really good player imo. But 8M was too big a number, and his best position is 5 tech. This new D only employs one 5 tech, which needs to 2 gap, so not really the best use of cap to keep him. I wish him well tho.. He played hard in his time here, and some other team will get a good player in the right D. Back with Bowles would be a good place.
Van Roten might go, but he could still be here at least through TC. Lewis needs to go as does Ryan Griffin.
I don't think there was a place for Anderson in Saleh's D. His production has not been good the last two years. I don't think we'll be seeing a 3-4 alignment very often, if at all. I see no reason to keep him.
I know we are excited about off-season and free agency but there are not a lot of young FA that will be available. Most guys are 30 and above, not sure if Jets are looking to give a bunch of 30 year olds 3 or 4 year contracts when team is not really close to being competitive. Anderson is proof that they are not going to keep expensive older players around. Allen Robinson is 28, Gurley is 27, Solomon Thomas Is 26, but there is going to be serious competition to sign that type of top talent.
Anderson has a pretty damn good first step off the line when he lined up on the edge for a guy his size. He just has no moves when he engages. Probably right though. He'll end up in Baltimore or Pittsburgh and be a good 3-4 run stuffing edge.
Why get rid of lewis, keep him as depth. We don't have the pick of the litter and are weak as is at oline
he’s terrible and overpaid w very little guaranteed if he’s cut. Savings from Lewis and Anderson pay thuney’s salary.
