So, Ramsey gets a 1 YEAR contract extension and already here comes the sh*t storm. Have we not learned anything so far? I have read these various things from posters: a) this is bad news for Pennington b) this is what happens when you hire a non-football guy GM c)Well, that's it for Bollinger d) so the reward for a bad mini-camp is a contract extension? Lets handle these panic statements one at a time: a) How is this bad news for Pennington? They signed a promising young quarterback to a 1 year deal!!! They didn't sign him to a 10 year contract, and what is it like 1.6 million, that's nothing. And since we know that Tannenbaum is a cap-concerned GM (unlike Isiah, you know what I mean Knick fans), I'm sure its a cap-friendly deal. Pennington will win the starting job if he proves he can do it. Mangini is only concerned about winning, unlike the retard Herm who probably would have named Pennington starter, and released Ramsey already. We need as many options as possible right now, and I think signing Ramsey to a 1 year deal, can only help boost his confidence. b) Tannenbaum would not do anything that Mangini didn't want. To think that Tannenbaum makes any decisions on his own, is just plain stupid. He has made it clear that his job is to get players for Mangini. They are friends, and they are working together. And can we please drop this non-football guy thing. They guy has been in the league for decades now, is smart and knows what he is doing, as much as any first time GM, probably more so because of his cap experience. Just because he was an accountant first, and not born with a football up his ass, or wasn't a former player, doesn't mean he can't do the job. c) In Belichek's first year they kept 4 quarterbacks. If Bollinger is valuable, he will make the team, period. However, let's look at the reality. Bollinger is a gutsy player, with a lot of heart, who is a real nice guy (I met him a few months ago), but he is not a superbowl quarterback. Somebody actually posted that we could be letting a Ray Lucas-type quarterback go. Ok...so what. Ray Lucas was a gutsy player, with a lot of heart, a real nice guy...and definitely NOT a superbowl quarterback. If he goes, he goes, are super bowl dreams are not tied to Bollinger. d) Which leads me to my last, and most important point. The media goes to a few days of minicamp, only the days that they were allowed to go. And comes out reporting this: Pennington made some nice throws, Bollinger was once hated, but did well, Kellen Clemens was awesome and should start, and Ramsey stinks. Wow. That sounds like real football analysis. Is it possible, folks...that maybe, we should trust a coaching staff (which has spent their lives analyzing talent) instead of the media (which spends their lives trying to sell papers). The media must have a villian, they must have a hero to sell papers. Ramsey=villian, and Clemens=hero, right now. I'm sure that are coaching saw what they needed to see in Ramsey and signed him to the extension because they are interested in what he can do. The best part about Mangini and Tannenbaum is that they are secretive. We as Jet fans are not going to know anything REAL about our team. Everything we read from them, will be in Derek Jeter-speak. Nothing to incite, nothing to put on the bulletin board, and nothing that gives anything to the other teams. That is the way a football team is run. Not the way its going to be in Kansas City this year, I can promise you that. Plus, for the first time in 5 years, our team will be taught technique, be conditioned properly, and will not lose games because of the coach being confused at the end of games (just my gut feeling, Mangini is a student of the game not a preacher). I'm excited for this season and so should you.
I don't really see any jets fans freaking out. It's a one year extension and they can still cut him after this year if they want. It's a smart move for all parties. No one cares about the media anymore since they are not getting anymore inside information and their opinion counts the same as you or I.
Dude its the offseason. That is the only reason people are reacting to it in any manner. If it was during the season or draft, no one would care. Don't worry we haven't gotten any crazier than we already were
so whats the point of the thread? where did all this come from...anyway..its pouring here in ct how bout ny and nj?
ahh nevermind i did see the other thread now with some people jumping to conclusions...i get it now...we need the season to start asap!!!!!
Did he get a signing bonus? Even if he did, he has to be minimal, this is a shrewd move, if Ramsey plays well this year, then they have him for another, at a really low price. If he doesn't play well, you either cut him with almost no dead weight on the cap, or he becomes a bad backup/3rd string QB.
Yes, they are both rather frumpy, generally speaking. Herm was a snappy dresser, but he allowed those green pants uniform abominations. Holy Cr*p, I was screaming "Fashion Emergency!" during his tenure more than anything else. Our success on the field is somehow tied to a fashion statement, but I haven't been able to connect the dots yet.
he has better legs, arms, and cap numbers, as well as the opinion of his teammates than noodle arm. nobody said he was 'fragile' or 'like an egg back there'!
