Haven't really heard of anyone being signed at these two positions. Marone was decent last year, but competition never hurts. Folk in my opinion needs to be challenged. I don't like him at all, and I can't make out why so many people on this forum like him.
Yep, they signed both a K and P for competition. Kicker is Derek Dimke from Illinois, and Punter is Ryan Quigley from BC. Dimke competed last year on Detroit, ultimately losing out to the veteran Hanson. I think he has a real shot to unseat the inconsistent Folk. Folk was less than 78% on FG's last year. Something to keep an eye on is how Dimke does on KO's. A high touchback rate from either could be the difference. I think Quigley will have a hard time unseating Malone, who was pretty effective last year in net punts and inside 20 %. But never know. Quigley was Chicago's backup plan until Podlesh returned from injury last year. I like that they are adding competition and a backup plan virtually everywhere.
Can't post links yet.. Transactions on Jets Homepage: 05/12/2013 Jets Release K Derek Dimke 05/12/2013 Jets Sign K Brett Maher
Good catch on the Maher signing. just looking him up quick, he was both Kicker and Punter for Nebraska, but will play Kicker in NFL. Was considered best kicker undrafted. Missed 2 kicks on opening day this year, which hurt his stock. But finished off the year strong. Seems like real competition. we'll see..
Jets signed UDFA punter Alex Dunnachie (Univ. of Hawaii) last month and he's participating in the OTA's.
