Has Sutton survived as DC, or is there another shoe to fall?

    Did Sutton really survive?
Are we STILL hoping Vlad in Oakland will can Rob Ryan?

I am not sold on Sutton and Manginis 'non comittal' words at end of season kind of make Sutton ball-less.

I think a move will be made before camp.

Ive met Bob Sutton a couple times I used to be in charge of the VIP rooms at Michie stadium when I was younger and he was the coach there. I liked him as a coach and was happy when the Jets got him as LB coach then. Now though he still might be a nice guy but I dont think he is a good DC I think we need to go in another direction but with a Def minded HC I dont think we will

Sutton will be the DC for at least one more year. If he was going to be replaced he would have been already, the ship has sailed, get used to it.

At this point in time it would seem like Sutton will be DC. The only thing that IMO could change that is if Crazy AL all of a sudden fires Ryan.

Not likely to happen, but with Davis, there is always hope

Probably a bit late to be firing coaches.

Sutton is our guy for next year. Changinn now would mean we will be at the bottom of the "Ability to Stop the Run" pile again for another year.

No way do we change now.

Al Davis is probably too stubborn and loyal to his stubborness to let Ryan go.

Mr. Sutton is the DC because the HC is extraordinarily defensive-minded and Mr. Sutton has great rapport with the D. Mr. Sutton is a superb conduit to the D.

I believe that Mr. Sutton is effectively Mangini's surrogate.

When you look at the impact of coaching, I think you are looking at Mangini's hand.

What seems to be the problem is getting the D more involved sooner in the defensive strategic process.

That is what has happened during each of the two succeeding yearly byes -- the D has had a chance to see what happened and chimed in with their take on things.

After that everybody seemed to mesh better.

This should be happening in practice during August, if we're going to see the integrated results from game 1.

But then, this is just my impression of what we're seeing.

Way too late to see Sutton leave now. Already hip deep in making changes to the team and the defense for next year. I would think they would want to have their DC in place before much of that happens so he can have some input on the process.

I can live with Sutton for one more year, but I do not want to see the D dragging its ass to get up to speed for half the season again. This past year we could look at Vilma and his injury and maybe that had a bigger impact, but next year they really need to come out the gate thumping.

Interesting way to look at it. I'm alright with the HC having a philosophy of how to run the defense, but if it is going to be in the crapper until he gets involved there is a problem. He needs to be a HC, not a hidden DC behind someone else.
