I'm not sure of the cap hit but I wonder if given Leon's ability to return kicks with great ability, we might try and dump Miller in the offseason. Miller, as a pure return man, has great value to the right team. As a CB, we heard that he was doing better in TC and unfortunately he didn't have the time to prove the same on the field, as he was injured early on. That being said, given Miller's lack of development until that point, his questionable background and his penchant for stupid penalties, has Leon's play sealed Miller's fate? I don't know if there's a yes/no answer to this, but it certainly serves as good debate material.
With the lack of talent in the secondary it would make no sense to release a guy that hasn't been able to translate his talent to the field but certainly has the talent it takes to play CB.
While I like this idea, I think Brad Smith is an excellent lead-blocker on KRs... With his long, lanky wingspan, he seems to engulf the first guy who gets through the wedge almost every time.... If I see him cut off Leon and take the ball himself one more time, however, I'm going to be really upset with him... I love Smith, but those two drops, and cutting Leon off three times yesterday, were inexcusable...
I think these days, you can't have enough guys for special teams. ST is the area where many injuries happen, and you're always one missed block from losing a guy for an extended period. Given that, I'd much rather keep Miller, unless Tannenbaum can orchestrate a blockbuster type of deal. If Miller can play CB as well as we've been lead to believe, then he's far more valuable to us on the team than as trade bait. Dyson isn't getting it done. If Miller can take over for Revis, and Revis can move into Dyson's spot, we might have the makings for a strong secondary in the near future. The big problem is that there's far too many "ifs" involved with this team.
That's what really pissed me off yesterday. He outright cut off Leon, as though he's some sort of superstar who has to be allowed to touch the ball at every opportunity. Given what Leon did with his first touch of the day, there's no reason he shouldn't have been the one returning those balls. I was big on the idea of a "Slash" player in Smith, but lately, he's done nothing to impress me, and more to get me mad enough to throw things.
Ok so Smith had a bad day, lets not all jump ship on him now...he has done alot of good for this team, and yes he dropped two easy passes ( in a row no less). If he does this again in Week 11, then we can start the Smith bashing, but I think he will end up being fine..
Look, I'm not bashing him overall. I think he's played a bit subpar on offense at times, but the entire offense is subpar. My problem is him running in front of Leon as the ball comes down on a kick and grabbing it. You can't excuse that, and I doubt when the film review comes up this week that he's going to avoid a reprimand for it.
Couldn't agree more. About the most exciting play for Jets fans is to see Leon return KOs. Regardless of that, Leon is clearly superior and should be the one cutting in front of anyone else. I am not sure where Brad Smith's head was at yesterday. It was especially disappointing because it is clear that he is Clemens favorite target and he really let down KC yesterday.
that must have been the kickoff I took a piss during hmy: I'll take a look at it when I do my "Clemens Passing Analysis" this week
Miller has done nothing at CB except irritate me in the past. Last year i was at least happy when he was returning kicks. Now he is out, and washington is lighting the return game on fire. Shows me, Miller is not going to have the KR job come next season. If we actually had a third CB who was any good, i'd toss him in an instant, but i dont believe we actually do, therefore i say let him play out his contract...
I heard he was having a good pre-season...whether that would have translated into a good season or not I can't say. In either case, given our CB situation he is def'n not expendable. If he can come back next year and live up to expectations then he will help us form a good secondary.
I?m sure i?m gonna take a beating for this, but if we trade one of our two return man, i would trade Leon. Reasons: 1. His value is much higher, we could at least get a 3rd rounder for him. He has already shown, that he?s a good weapon on offense, too, not only a kick returner, but with our O-Line, we can?t get him thou the line and one-on-one with a OLB, S, or CB and let him do what he does best. He could be a good RB behind another O-Line, and somone may be willing to give us a 2nd rounder to put him in a 2 back system. What could we get for Miller, a 4th maybe? I?m not willing to let this talent walk out the door for a 4th Rounder. 2. I think we sould get McFadden and add a very dangerous weapon to our Offens, if we do so, one of our 3 RBs won?t see the field on Offense and that?ll be lil?Leon. 3. I still think Miller could develop into a very good NFL-Corner, he showed flashes during TC this year, he has a nearly perfect skillset, he just needs to learn to cover. If he could life up to his potential, we don?t have to worry about a CB for a very long time with Revis and Miller. God damn, isn?t there a coach out there, that can teach this guy to cover, or at least catch a punt? bring on the bashing...
Miller is a great kick off returner but Leon is better fumbles much less and well is just better , Miller cant return punts , Leon can and pretty good and he can make plays from the running back position aswell as a reciever. Miller is just a horrible Corner unless he can prove otherwise i dunno. Well see what happens and what mangini wants to do.
If they think Darren McFadden is Adrian Peterson, then I agree with you. If Leon can get a 3rd rounder (not sure if he will or won't), then you can grab a guard there.
I think this is a very good point, and I agree that there's not for sure answer yet, but I personally would say no, I'd like to see how he has improved at the CB role, and if he can maybe become our #2. I know he wasn't great at defending the long ball last year, but he wasn't awful, I really think he can develop into a steady #2 or maybe 3 CB, and at this rate, with Barrett and Dyson sucking, we need him to be just that...
Didn?t the steeler give up a 4th rounder for Rossum? If a 31 year old player, that does nothing but return kicks is worth a 4th rounder, a 25 year old, even better return man, that is also a weaopn on offense should at least be worth a 3rd!
i say teach leon to play corner. it couldnt be much worse than former 2nd round pick miller!!! miller sucks i say let him walk. get something if you can.
I think Miller's compensation (low) and potential (high) would at least get him a chance to compete for a job KR or CB in training camp. He is faster than just about anyone else on our team. We may even get some value for Miller in a trade if he looks good in camp (or in the first couple weeks of the regular season).
