https://www.si.com/nfl/jets/news/why-new-york-jets-gm-joe-douglas-built-last-place-team-afc-east Just a nice article off a holiday weekend that should get everyone's blood pressure going! Lol
Sports Illustrated gave this dude a platform? Yikes. He's been embarrassing the shit out of himself on Twitter the last few weeks clearly trying to make a name for himself and capitalize on a title he had... checks watch... 20 years ago.
"Starting offensive tackles George Fant and Mekhi Becton are coming off knee surgeries and there is little experience or premium depth behind them. The Jets’ upcoming schedule is stacked with elite pass rushers and literally this whole thing could fall apart, based on the situation at offensive tackle alone." -- that right there is a great point but everyone here is sure to get their feelings hurt
If I had three guesses as to which TGG member would agree with a guy who is widely considered an idiot, I would have nailed it on the first try.
I don't totally disagree. There are still concerns at tackle. Fant played well after moving to LT, but he is coming off of surgery. How will Becton perform at RT after missing all of 2021? These are legit questions. Also, I was all for taking KT at the #4 pick. I'm not a fan of JJ. Gardner may be a homerun, but this team really need to rush the passer. We shall see.
Of course we are in trouble if one or both of our tackles go down. How many teams in year 2 of a rebuild have starting caliber backups at either tackle position?
oh fuck off with that. You are concerned about the tackle position too, otherwise you are just kidding yourself
Gardner will take his lumps out of the gate too. That was a pick for the long term not the short term.
All picks are for long term. If you go into the draft needing a pick to turn your season around your typically going to sink.
It will be interesting to see how he does specifically against the Fins and Bills since he will be matched up against Hill and Diggs twice a year. Maybe more so the Bills who have a QB.
Of course the Jets have built a last place team. The AFC East is a very tough division right now and there is no good reason to think the Jets will win more than one game in the division nor that they will vault over anybody in 2022. Expectations are really low except in the drum-beating sections and so at least the disappointment is likely to be less this year than in the past decade or so.
is there any team in this league, regardless of their rebuilding status, counting on 2 injured tackles to start week 1?
Right but this article is talking about a last place finish in 2022 so I was commenting with that perspective
Your question is dopey because it's May and you're operating under the assumption two people will be injured in September.
ok, so the answer is no... I sure hope Max Mitchell is ready. Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Trey Hendrickson before the leaves even begin to fall, yikes
There's no reason to believe that the Jets will be any better than last place this season. Every team in the division has more talent, better quarterbacks, better skill positions, better coaching, etc. Im sure someone will argue that we're not the worst at one or some of those things, but it doesn't really matter. The Jets are a last place team until they're not.
No the answer is your question is dopey because it's May and you're operating under the assumption two people will be injured in September. Sucks that we are gonna rely on Tevin Coleman considering Carter and Hall are gonna be hurt in September. Hopefully we have a good plan for WR too because Moore, Davis and Wilson are all going down before week 1. Do we even have a 4th string CB for when Sauce, Reed and Bryce Hall go down? Joe Douglas built a last place team.
