When are we going to start calling it the Core Five? I include a certain QB Sanchez as part of the core.

Sanchez is kind of a tier above the "core four". Your franchise QB is in a class by himself. If anything Sanchez's contract is a tool that can be used (reworked) to sign others. I don't think he'll ever lose a wink of sleep over a new deal.

If you're gonna make the core four the core five I'd say it should be Braylon.

I love that guy. He is always all over the field. He is perfect for Ryans defense, and I think he can be a probowl player with at least 5 appearances.

    this.

All Harris did was sit quietly while other Jet FA's were getting contracts last year. He played hard despite this.

    Harris deserves his payday.

I agree he's an awesome team player who should be here long term but I don't think there was a feasible way for him to get a new contract last year without guaranteeing something like 90% of the contract

I've been curious about Sanchez's contract. Can the FO restructure it so he gets paid more this year if its uncapped and then reduce his salary numbers when the the cap comes back in 2012? Basically, why don't they just pay Sanchez a lot of money now when they can and then have him agree to accept less in the future.

If anything they'd wanna do the opposite. His cap number is insane for 2011 iirc so it would make sense to spread it out, esp so they can re-sign edwards, holmes, harris and/or cromartie.

I think there's gonna be a salary cap this year if there's football.

Sanchez isnt anything yet. hes still got alot to prove and this third year will be telling of whether or not he is actually developing.

in fact he'll be severely overpaid if he doesnt clean up his consistency this year.

do i have faith he will continue to get better? hell yes.

the final 4 rules restricted even that.

the pat willis deal was able to be done cause of the fact his contract before was a 1st rd deal.

i believe you couldnt go over 25% increase in annual average and they lumped the rest as a huge bonus.

i could be wrong but from my recollection i believe thats the scenario

I understand that...but the point is, he didn't put up a stink over it.

The NFL is chock full of money-hungry egomaniacs who would've made an issue over this situation......thankfully, Harris isn't one of them

Love Harris. One of my favorite Jets, hope he wreaks havoc on opposing QBs next year.
