Hes not worth the 5M he was scheduled to be paid, but a decent QB. Won't get a chance to start next year, but will be a great backup somewhere.

Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philly. Lots of teams have nothing at backup and would love to have him.

I hope he gets a shot with a decent team. The teams around him for the last 3 seasons have been shit. Before that he was great when he was playing with good players around him.

Raiders cut ties with QB Brooks
Oakland won't pick up option after rough season

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Raiders cut ties with Aaron Brooks on Thursday, declining to pick up the option on the quarterback's contract after one difficult season.

Brooks, who would have been due a $5 million roster bonus if he had stayed on the roster, failed to win any of his eight starts with the Raiders. The QB, who signed with Oakland after six seasons with the New Orleans Saints, will now look to join his third team in as many years.

Brooks' one season in Oakland got off to a disastrous start when he was sacked seven times in a season-opening 27-0 loss to the San Diego Chargers. He got hurt after fumbling two snaps from center the following week in Baltimore and missed the next seven games with a strained pectoral muscle.

Brooks played better after his return in November, but still was unable to generate a win for his new team. He finished the season with a passer rating of 61.7 after completing 57.3 percent of his passes and throwing eight interceptions and three touchdown passes. He was sacked 26 times in eight games.

The problems on Oakland's offense went much deeper than the quarterback. Receivers Randy Moss and Jerry Porter were disgruntled and unproductive all season, running back LaMont Jordan went down with a season-ending knee injury in the same game Brooks returned from his injury, and the offensive line was one of the worst in the league.

Brooks acknowledged late in the season that he never could have imagined all that went wrong in his one season with the Raiders.

Oakland scored just 168 points in 2006 -- the fifth fewest in a 16-game season -- and failed to score on offensive touchdown in eight games. Offensive coordinator Tom Walsh, who had been out of the NFL for more than a decade before returning to the Raiders, was demoted late in the season.

Head coach Art Shell was fired following the 2-14 season, the worst in owner Al Davis' more than four decades with the franchise. Lane Kiffin replaced Shell and has overhauled the offensive coaching staff.

With third-string quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo expected to leave as a free agent, Andrew Walter will likely be the only quarterback to return from last season. Walter went 2-6 in place of the injured Brooks last season, struggling with turnovers and accuracy.

Walter threw 13 interceptions, lost nine fumbles and was sacked 46 times. He completed only 53.3 percent of his passes, threw for three touchdowns and had a passer rating of 55.8.

Oakland also has the No. 1 pick in April's draft and could use it to select one of the two quarterbacks in the draft, JaMarcus Russell out of LSU or Brady Quinn of Notre Dame. The team also could target a veteran in free agency.

All this means is that Russell or Quinn (I suspect Russell) will get a chance to be the next Vince Young, a QB who hits the ground running.

Yea, Quinn's value has really went down in all the mock drafts. But with the Raiders, you never know.

Detroit could have interest in Brooks as competition for Kitna. Looks like Josh McCown is a non-starter there.

You meant to say the Lions, of course.
I don't think Brooks will want to go to another shit team. He might actually beat out Kitna for the starting job, but would he want to play for another loser. I think he is better off going to a great team as the backup and wait for an injury ala Garcia.
He will have options. Decent backups are scarce in the NFL.

Do you really think he's a decent QB? I think he's the worst starting NFL QB and I felt that way before Oakland.

Then you didn't watch him 2001-2004. The Saints had the worst D in the league year after year. The running game was below average except for 2003. He only had one dependable receiver. Yet they still won 8-9 games every year. It was the Brooks to Horn show. Horn got all the credit, but someone was getting him the ball through those double coverage. Add all those key 1 st down runs, he had a knack for sustaining drives with his legs. He was a very productive QB.

2005 was a right off (hurricane). 2006 was the worst o-line in the history of football.
