It turns out Vilma has a chronic knee problem that was evident during the combine. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ts_knew_of_jonathan_vilmas_knee_injury-2.html
Should this surprise us considering the coach and GM that drafted him? Not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed.
As much as I love blaming the prior staff, this is the first I've ever heard of this... everyone thought this was a great pick & this is his first injury in 4 years
This is vilmas first injury in 4 years; his first missed game in 4 years; he was a great pick. Please dont compare him with drob, who had arthritis in his knees from day 1. Anyways I wonder if the 3-4 scheme where hes always taking on big guards, etc helped the injury along.
Our current GM and HC drafted Eric Smith and C. Stuckey- both guys with injury histories who have had trouble getting on the field so far.
then I stand corrected... chalk another one up to the Hermway era... I'm sure junc will be here any minute to defend
Yeah that's what I was going to say.. It was an issue which hadn't been aggravated since high school? Vilma was a very good draft choice, can;t blame Herm and Bradway for this...
Well, it seems a fairly good risk/reward strategy, as long as the injury is not a serious joint injury. Guy performs at a high level, Injures, then drops farther down the board, than talent dictates. Clemens fits the same scenario.
True. Clemens broke his leg, and broken bones can present some medical consequences in the future, too. It doesnt always occur, but the potential is there. I cant knock a FO for taking a guy who had some imperfection with his health history. The draft is always a crapshoot to some extent.
alot of these guys coming out of college have some type of injury history. they have been playing contact sports since before puberty and many of them have logged in more than 4 years of college ball IMO its one of the overlooked reasons the NFL career is shortest amongst the major sports - not counting the obvious reason about the NFL game itself jil
It's evident the article is trashed..... he's never shown a knee problem.... nor did he favor his knee when he was "PULLED" from play
