This doesn't make much sense, but the Giants do...

    We have enough TEs

News: The Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez has asked for a trade, and the club is attempting to move him. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday. Gonzalez has played his entire 12-year career with the Chiefs but has never won as much as a playoff game. The veteran would like the chance to win a ring before the end of his career. The paper notes that compensation for Gonzalez would be the biggest problem since Gonzalez is a short-term option as he's 32 years old with retirement in sight.
Analysis: A lot of clubs jump out as potential suitors for Gonzalez, including the Patriots, Packers, Vikings, Panthers, Jets, Bills, Jaguars, Titans and Giants (whom a local radio station reported had the most interest). Fantasy owners should root hard for Gonzalez to land with a new club since he'd be playing in a better offense, most likely with a better quarterback than what he has now with the Chiefs. Gonzalez's years of experience would also likely make him an easy add to any offensive playbook. We'll keep you posted on what happens with Gonzalez, but for now, keep him benched as the Chiefs are on bye in Week 6. He's a decent starting option if he's still with the Chiefs in Week 7 even though the play the Titans.

Another TE? Still, that would be insane... KC is going to want more than we should offer for him, though.

    Baker, 5th and a 6th?

    I'd do it.

He can teach Keller to be just like him. A Gonzalez and a clone on a team that actually wins would be dangerous. Tony G can block too.

agreed with Dmick... any chance to upgrade your team should be taken. besides knowledge is power, and a major reason fans were clamoring to get Faneca this offseason, so he could teach Dbrick and Mangold the tricks of the trade. Gonzales would certainly make for and interesting acquisition, and obviously would cost us one of our TE's on the roster. Granted I would trade either Baker or Franks for Gonzo, or both for that matter. Keller cant be moved because of his status as a draft pick, and potential now exceeds any value Gonzales would give us for a year or two.

Also I wouldnt have a problem trading a 6th round pick away or a 5 in 10, or a 6 in 09 and a 5 in 10 as well. late round picks are tough to find, we have yet to snag a 5 or 6th round pick that would contribute effectively (not counting this years class, too early, and even so neither Ainge or Henry will have any impact on this season). and the only 7th round pick this regime has made thats still part of the team is Stuckey. which was a great find, and good for tangini finding him.

Anyways lets make a bigtime blockbuster trade and bring in Gonzo and Johnson

either way it wont happen, its time for the jets to standpat with what they have and make a run for it. Gonzo and Johnson would never hurt however, of course neither would Roy Williams from Detroit either...

The Jets are a candidate according to whoever wrote this article. It's written as his opinion. At least that was my take on how it was written.

According to rotoworld he's only making $1 million this year so we could afford him.
I guess Franks would be the odd man out in that situation. Gonzo is obviously a supremely talented TE, but I wonder if it would be a good idea to bring in another moving part to an offense that seems to be jelling right now.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but not overly excited if it did happen.

So BB your saying if we trade away a backup TE for a starting TE, that would be a bad thing because it may mess with the starters chemistry? I doubt it.

Still think this while not a fair deal by any means, is a deal the chiefs might be interested in...

Thomas Jones, Chris Baker, 4th round pick in 09 and a 5th round pick in 10 for Larry Johnson and Gonzo.

For Gonzo i would go Baker and a 6 in 10. So for Johnson who's value is low, we upgrade the 6 to a 4 and a 5 next year, and TJ. Fair enough IMO.

I'm saying I don't know if it's a good idea. This offense had to bring in a new QB and get everyone on the same page at a fast pace. It appears to have just started to click. Would bringing in another new face help the chemistry that has been built? Certainly not right away. I see our offense as pretty fragile in terms of chemistry right now and I don't know if it's a good idea to do something that might throw a wrench in things.

I guess I'm just skeptical. I don't like seeing plays where receivers are thinking one thing and the QB is thinking another. We cannot afford that kind of thing at this point in the season. The next 3 games are must wins IMO considering the way the division is shaping up.

I hadn't thought of the possibility of a QB being thrown into the mix, but with Edwards' current QB situation I could see him wanted a development QB, Ainge or Ratliff or even Clemens could be dealt, depending on how the CS feels they are as a future candidate.

No telling how the CS feels about them, but Clemens and Baker and a 4th for Gonzales would be a pretty Madden-esque trade. Tannenbaum has been pretty creative with his trades, though, and I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

Not that I think Clemens should be traded, I still think he's a very good development prospect that needs to get his head on straight in the NFL.

while i wouldn't mind having gonzalez for a year or two, i would much rather develop keller by giving him as much playing time as we can. i think keller can be just as good as gonzalez in a few years if the offense is designed ti utilize his talents. so far it looks like they are trying to get him involved which is good. now if they could get rid of baker in a deal for gonzelez i would be all over it.

imagine opposing defenses trying to stop a two te fromation with coles and cotch on the outside, and gonzalez and keller at the te's. that would be enough to keep even BB up at night.

i remember many statements like this when the favre trade was being rumored. we all know how that turned out. i dont think anything is out of the question with this team anymore.

After the way they approached this offseason, I have thrown all 'realism' aspects out the window, seeing the Favre and Jenkins and Pace acquisitions. They want to win now.

Tony Gonzales is probably going to be a Hall Of Fame candidate who has suffered with bad QB play and worse game management the past couple of years, if it were up to him to approve any trades, I think he would have to choose between a clicking Brett Favre who likes to throw TDs to big, athletic TEs with awesome hands for possibly a season and a half, following with a development QB, or half a season of Matt Cassel followed by a season of Rehab Brady and whatever ensues.

My guess is that he ends up on the Giants if a trade does happen.

I thot Gonzalez was older than 32, but if hes that age he could still be an elite player for several more years if he's motivated enough. But I don't think the Jets need him, we have Keller. Speaking of age, I think Keller is older than most rookies, I think he's 24 or something. The extra years means he should be more mature and adjust to the NFL quicker, and it also means he will exit his phsyical prime sooner. So no reason to sit Keller behind Gonzalez, just play Keller and let him learn by playing, rather than through the questionable technique of somehow absorbing a quality vet's football mojo by proximity.

He's way too old to be producing his numbers now and we can't afford him anyways. Even though hes counting $1 against the salary cap rite now, I don't think he's gonna take anything less than maybe $3 mil a yr contract. We dont need him. Chris Baker has good hands, Keller has hands and speed, Franks has the size and blocking abilities. We can use these 3 in rotational scheme and get enough out of it. A yr from now, Keller should/would be a killer. He'll stretch the field just like Gonzo does.

Thank you but no thank you...We have more to worry about than our TE position.

Right now, we get zero production out of our 4th on down WRs, so if we got another pass catching TE who is a sure fire HOFer, it would be fine by me. It would also lessen the blow if a guy like Cotchery or Coles goes down.
