There is not a lot of big topics ATM so I thought I'd throw this out there. I got this feeling, which might be full of BS, but it keeps coming up. We need some draft capital to rebuild our lines and our cap space is going to be considerably less this season. But we don't have a lot of assets to trade, except one big one. Quinnen. I would not be completely shocked if JD made a big trade with Q. The downside is its tough to trade core players. But hear me out. Quinnen wasn't a JD pick, and we have seen how JD has parted with every other pick that wasn't his. Also,he is positioned for a huge second contract, which we would probably have to put off this year cause our cap is going to be tight already. He just made the pro bowl and is a hot commodity right now. I can see JD trading him for multiple high picks and loading up with more rebuilding capital. How would you feel about that. And if we traded him, what would you want back?
This defense didn't work after Q got hurt. I guess I wouldn't mind a trade given the situation but I highly doubt anybody from the regime survives next season if they choose to do that.
That trade would set the franchise back years. The PR damage alone would be catastrophic as the team would be murdered in the local media. It may be a decent tactical move, but that wouldn't sell to the local market in any package they try to wrap it in.
I would hate it. We saw how bad this DL was without him in the middle, because we have several “pretty good” edge rushers but not a single dominant edge rusher. They need QW busting up the middle to win consistently on their edge matchups. I believe you don’t get better by trading away good young players. Jamal Adams was a good trade because safety is not a premium position and he was never a ball hawk difference maker. He blitzed well, but when your leading slacker is a safety you have serious issues on D. QW is 100% different. While you can definitely make the case that DT is also not a premium position, you absolutely CAN make the case that QW is one of a small handful of difference makers at DT. There aren’t many. For us, he is the key to our D. the cap will work itself out…it always does. A couple restructures, some moves, it’ll work out. I used to worry about “cap hell” but it’s mostly a myth. It’s a good excuse to get rid of players you don’t want, or to get players to restructure, but funny enough, teams always seem to be able to keep players they want to keep. to me, the real problems are on O. Our D may be overrated a bit and they certainly let down lately, but it’s good enough to win with. We need to fix the OL and we need a real fucking QB. Sign a decent vet QB and upgrade the OL with draft picks and free agency and we are a playoff team next year.
Interior pass rush is too important to the Jets system to trade Quinnen. Studs at that position don't grow on trees, when he was out, there was a noticeable decline on the line. I think JD will figure out how to work his deal and give himself leeway to sign other players.
Our coaches need to learn to never go full retard. Quinnen is at the center of what we are building here. Trading him would be a horrible mistake.
Exactly this. I wouldn't mind trading him for a Jamal Adams type haul but shipping a home grown talent who is loved inside the locker room might send wrong signal to the rest of the players. Not talking about media backlash. Pay Q and move on.
The cap is a figment of our imagination and can be manipulated to make lots of space not too worried about that few moves or trades we have 40m
I’m a Red Sox fan and just went through this with a certain core player on the team. Wasn’t drafted by the current executive in charge, history of said executive unceremoniously letting players he didn’t bring in walk, major decision that would affect the future of the team and fanbase looming. Everyone expected said player to be traded because executive didn’t want to pay him. Then the unthinkable happened: he signed him. It happened there, it’ll happen here. There’s no excuse in either case for the player to not be signed. It would be a fireable offense to not get it done!
This would be a completely asinine move by the Jets. Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul. Q is the heart and soul of the Jets defensive line he needs to wear Jets green for the duration of his career.
At some point, we have to retain our talent. The Adams trade was necessary because he was becoming a problem child. Q has done his talking on the field and should be rewarded by us.
So just when Q finally reaches his potential and begins delivering what everyone predicted he would do when he was drafted, NOW we should trade him? Not to mention that he is a true difference- maker: when he plays the defense is noticeably better; when he doesn't they're noticeably worse. There are lots of other candidates for cutting/trading, QW isn't one of them.
