DL Jarron Gilbert has been moved to active roster. CB Will Billingsley, from NC A+T, added to p-squad. Per Jenny Vrentas twitter
Lots of folks round here were very high on this kid coming out of college. Hopefully Rex can get some production out of him. He does seem like a great athlete.
you mean LAST year... he was drafted w/the 4th pick of the 3rd rd by the Bears, we drafted Shonn Greene w/the 1st pick of that same rd. Hopefully he plays up to the hype.
big production in college, prototype 3-4 d-end size (no clue why the bears picked him) and a 4.76 40 rex's forte is d-line, i really hope this kid pans out ... thatll be one less need in next years draft
bears have a good DL coach and hes a better fit at 4-3 DT so the fact they casted him aside so quick is kinda disheartening. i literally dont expect anything from him. pretty much seems to be gholston minus the cap dollars. that way if he actually contributes i can be happy. at this level most people have the physical tools, lets see if it comes together.
can't believe the bears gave up on him so quickly. Like others have said, many people on this board wanted him, so let's see if we were right.
interesting. I was hoping the Rex could turn him around because he has the physical skills, but I didn't see him having a chance so soon.
Excuse me!? Please explain 'cause I strongly disagree... MEh.. guess Donovan Warren has no future in the NFL if he can't even make our PS instead of this kid...
This move was part of Revis' contract, they needed to sign someone with the last name Gilbert. Explains why Revis is 100%.
I am taking Revises 100% with a ton of caution. Let see how he does when he has to run 100% in the game this Sunday :jets:
Yes. No. Gilbert was a 3-4 end in college. He's a very, very poor fit at 4-3 DT. Rod Marinelli is a good defensive coach, but I've seen quite a lot of talent atrophy on that Chicago defensive line in recent years. Remember when people were calling Tommie Harris the best tackle in football? Dude can't even make the gameday roster now.
someone else asked me why i said that. mostly due to his size being prototypical of a 4-3 3 technique DT. and I'm aware he played 3-4 DE in college. I just question the level of competition and his ability to take double teams at the NFL level. sure its cute to rush the passer and jump out of pools but 3-4 DE especially in our system, you either need to command double teams or simply hold your gap responsibility. his skillset is more about penetration and moving the pocket. thats my opinion but i havent watched enough film on him to truly count him out. I do however feel that Mauga will be a better player for us than Gilbert. also, anyone who gets after 1 yr of being drafted especially in top 4 rounds is quite alarming. as far as Harris goes, he had a few injuries and has never been the same, thats more on Harris body then Marinelli IMO. and the rest of the talent Oguneleye etc all fell off when Harris stopped dominating.
sorry addressed that in my previous post. im not saying he doesnt fit 3-4 DE im just saying i think his skillset he shouldve been good at getting a 1 on 1 as a 3 technique. I wouldnt worry about Warren yet. that might have more to do with him switching to hybrid S from CB and Coleman stepping up more and Revis being "100%" we definitely need more help in the front 7 than we do in the defensive backfield. id look at it as more of a need vs talent plug in at this point
