Gholston better than his numbers

Interesting perspective from his coach. He has no reason to defend him as he is no longer trying to "sell" his player to help his draft position.

 

If was watching some other videos of his games and saw one against Iowa where he was occupied by the blocker and the running back tried to get by.
The RB was going full speed and Gholston just reached out one arm and pulled him down.
Those plays don't show in the stats but do show how dominant he could be.

 

Hearing his former coach speak of him in that manner is very comforting.

I'm not quite sure what to think of Gholston to be honest. He's an unbelievable talent, but I didn't like the lack of enthusiasm/excitement/passion when Deon interviewed him after he was picked; especially compared to the other guys chosen ahead of him. I know this has no berring on what he can do on the field but it still stood out to me.

If he can turn into our Merriman then this pick will be the catalyst which will re-define the jets defense for the next 10 yrs.

 

Right. Plus, it's not really a good thing to let the highs and lows of the game affect you; as long he gives 100% on the field, I don't care that he wasn't crying like Dorsey was after his pick. Plus, you know if he doesn't give 100% that Cox is going to be on his ass, as well as hard workers like Harris and Jenkins.

 

Let's face it, no one wants Cox on their ass.

I've been saying for a while now that having Bryan Cox around is going to be huge for the so-called motivation problems that Gholston has. It's nice to get that perspective from Tressell. If a lot of guys were used the way he was, they'd complain about sacrificing their numbers or big play ability. We haven't heard one thing from Gholston arguing that the knocks on him came from the way his coach used him. He accepts his role, excels in it, and doesn't seek glory. That's the kind of player I want around, just like David Harris. With Harris and Gholston around, our LB corps is going to be silent but deadly. Maybe not the best phrase to use...

 

No no you got it all wrong. Gholston sucks versus the bad teams and only gets sacks in big games. So he's lazy and bound to be a bust. Get for facts straight befire posting such inane crap.

I actually heard a rumor that Mangini and Tanny are gay and only picked him because he flexed naked for them.

Only our young, and now potentially gay duo could fall for that.

 

I didn't see the interview in question, but here's a thought. The only guy picked ahead of him that knew where he was going was Long @ 1. By the time the Jets picked, it was either they chose him, or traded out. He was either getting picked 6 or 7, so there wasn't going to be much surprise for him.

I'm not worried about him. You don't get double-digit sacks by taking games off.

I love when people bring up that game. The guy had a forced fumble, but it was recovered by Flynn and didn't show up, and the only sack of Flynn in the game, which was ruled intentional grounding and also didn't show up. He was the only impact player in Ohio State's front 7 in that game, and it showed.

BTW, you make it quite difficult to tell when you're being serious...which must be fun for you.

Its not too hard. 90% of the stuff he says is sarcasm and the other 20% is pure bullshit.
