Awesome. With Scott in the middle our LB core is solid as hell. Let's be happy about that. I feel we are in much better shape as a team than TGG board is making it sound. Sure we have a few holes but not as many as people make it sound. We are 4 positions away from being a solid playoff contender and we have a nice draft and some free agency to do it with. Focus now is Safety, CB and DE in defense. OG, and WR in offense. I have purposely skipped QB. I think the Rat or KC can do the job with a punishing running game. I am getting pumped up about our chances this year. I think the draft will fortify the CB and WR position, perhaps an OG and DE. The next free agency acquisition is a safety and OG and we will rock. Go jets
8-8 seems like a lock.... its the QB position that will dictate the playoffs next year. Playoffs will help confidence and chemistry of the team.
I want us to give Byron Leftwitch a chance to come in and compete for the job. We just have no clue what kind of production we could get from Ratliff or KC it doesn't make sense to fill other holes and ignore maybe the most important. Byron is a tough competitior, and if he doesn't win the job he will be able to provide solid veteran leadership for the rest of our quarterbacks.
I agree, I'd also like to see the Jets bring in a veteran QB. Whether it's Leftwich, Simms, or Garcia, I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a veteran on the roster. Look at how Kerry Collins came in handy last year for the Titans.
Yep didn't think about him but Chris Sims would be a guy I would'nt mind seeing. It all boils down to needing competition at the position. And no one could convince me that they are 100% sure that KC or Ratliff is the man for the job. With all the money we are spending on free agents QB has to be a position we look at.
As long as we have money to spend, every Offseason is going to be like this. Tannenbaum is a major advocate of draft flexibility by filling holes in FA. It really is an excellent strategy, as long as you get it right with the FAs. Think about what would've happened if we didn't get Pace last year; Gholston and Thomas would have been the starting OLBs, and clearly, Gholston wasn't ready for that. These moves will continue to keep this team competitive. Hopefully, Rex will make it elite.
Leftwich played really well when Rothlisberger got hurt this year. I don't really see why you think any quarterback on our roster is better than him.
The biggest whole left is OG. No matter who the QB is they will struggle without the protection of a functional line. Also, the lack of a quality guard would hinder the running game which is supposed to be the focal part of the offense. Personally, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE B.MOORE BACK
Yeah what happened to everyone saying Brandon Moore would get signed immediately if we let him go? He's still available right? Obviously, he wasn't worth that huge bonus. If we can bring him back for cheaper, great; if not, go find our Gord of the future in the Draft.
I sure like the trio of Jenkins, Scott and David Harris. 3 big bad men. Guess teams will try to run to the outside on us this season.
Well, I can dig up my posts from last season when everyone was crying about Gholston being useless . . . When he did play, there was one thing he did well and that was sealing off the outside run. A second thing would be pursuit, he looked fast as hell chasing down the ball carrier from behind, despite looking slower than a bag of bricks in trying to chase down Cutler. Pace will be set on the other side as well.
Ryan is putting this decision on Matt Kavanaugh... i think from what Ryan said about the subject the other day, it's on to what Matt thinks. They are going to have a competition. Perhaps Matt wants a veteran in to compete with the current group. Byron Leftwich won't come here unless he's promised the starting job. He's already a backup for a successful team. Maybe Simms, but Garcia is not not about to backup rookies. I think he's looking, like Leftwich, to be at the front of the pack. At any rate, the QB needs to be de-emphasized big time on the NYJs, gentlemen. We need to become successful as a blisteringly vicious defense, and a run-over-your-rear offensive running machine. Quarterback's job is not to drop the ball!
I agree 100%. Rex is a smart man. He's made his best effort to surround himself with people who he believes in and trusts to make smart football decisions. Rex may have the final say but from listening to him talk about the QB coach, he completely trusts his opinion and decisions.

Amen! he didnt pass much, but when the need was there, he was Spot on! Alot of Steelers fans are pissed off he is gone. He wont comand high dollars, and sans from the two Big deals (Scott being one) most FA's arent hitting the big money this year.
