How exactly do we exactly afford both Manning and Sanchez? Also the Jets would never admit to failure with Sanchez and bench him and I would never think Sanchez would agree to sit, Either Manning comes here and Sanchez is released or Sanchez is our pathetic starting qb next year.
I hate how people keep saying we're a "win now" team. Our safeties are average to below average, our line is in shambles, Shonn Green is a slightly above average running back, our receivers are merely decent, our linebackers with the exception of Harris are slow and over the hill, and where we are strong we also have youth(the secondary and Dline.) Of course a pre-2010 Peyton Manning could mask all of these deficiencies, but in no way are we "win now."
Give us Peyton Manning the past 2 seasons and we win the superbowl no ifs buts. Manning instantly makes us superbowl contenders.
Well yeah...those teams were much better. I'd say 2009 our team was in "win now" mode, we were just missing the QB. At this point we're in a slight rebuilding stage.
Manning would be here for the next 3 years not just next year, in that 3 years im confident he can win us a superbowl with proper drafting. Either way who would you rather watch throw the ball in a Jets uniform next year Sanchez or Manning?
if i were sanchez and that happened i'd be fucking livid but we'd definitely win a super bowl in the next few years
Manning wants rings more than dollars at this point. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6821628/peyton-manning-says-new-deal-indianapolis-colts-not-money
The window was probably 08-10. The 08 team was pretty good, Favre's injury killed it. In retrospect that was beneficial because it brought in Rex who improved the pass defense a great deal. in 09 and 10 we would have had a better shot. 09 still would have been tough with the secondary trouble we had. An elite offense would probably score enough so that doesn't matter. In 2010, yeah definitely. But now? It seems like we need at least 1, if not 2 new offensive linemen, some help with the Safety, and a lot of our LBs have just gotten older. I do think we're heading for a rebuilding stage. If we had a "Healthy Peyton Manning" that could cover up a lot of problems, as we're seeing with the colts this season.
So did Favre, if you think Manning will come here for 500k your mistaken. He is losing 28 mil when he is cut, so he will surely want money to. If he wants rings only he will go to Gb and be Aaron Rodgers backup.
No, but what is he willing to take to go somewhere he thinks would make him a winner? Would $5 million do it? $7?
Peyton does want rings. I dont think he wants to go to the NFC, honestly it would be a huge mistake. The AFC is wide open while the NFC is much better lately. Altho I could see him ending up on the 49ers making them instant favorites. We will see.
What you're apparently missing in your countless "Get Manning at all costs" posts is that this team is not as good as 2-3 years ago. The time to make a move like this was in 2008 - 2009.... so they swung for the fence with Favre and struck out. He bailed, Ryan arrived and the JETS had a very good team now with Ryan's defensive adjustments and new additions....... except for the QB. Kinda forced their hand at drafting Sanchez. In retrospective, they should've told Favre FU, and not granted his release, but seeing the way he has acted the past 2 years, who knows how he would've performed. No one will deny that Manning is a much better QB than Sanchez, but what will be the longterm and large scale consequences of making a move like that?
Peyton Manning can not be traded next year. Do anyone expect the colts to cut one of, if not the best, QB to play in the NFL?
What long term consequence huh? Get Manning and draft a qb that he can mentor why is that so hard to contemplate.
We had a shit defense in '08. This '11 defense, even though it's not as good as 09-10 is much better than '08.
Is he going to get cut, or are the Colts going to do a sign and trade with another team (ie, he'd resign a more trade friendly deal) and get a draft pick or two out of it? I wouldn't expect him to come cheap either way...
You know, this thing called the salary cap? All the money tied into the QB position, while there are holes in plenty of other places....... then there's actually trying to find ANOTHER young QB. Manning's what, 37? multiple neck surgeries? Hasn't thrown a football in almost a year. Who knows if and how long he would last, if he can even play again.
