Couple of points you homers and draft denial Manginites should consider. 1) 7 WINS is going to be a tough road this year. Miami and the Pats have much more talent and experience at RB and on their lines, not to mention their coaching staff than we do. 2) As bad as Buffalo is at least they have more talent at the skill positions and a more experienced coaching staff than our team. This is a two to three year rebuilding process. 3) Where is our running game and pass rush going to come from this year? 4) How do you take an ILB, a reach at that point in the draft on top of not filling a need position when you have crying needs at so many other positions? Every draft recap I've read has mentioned that Schlegel was a major reach and if you don't think that many of these guides are plugged into what the league and teams are thinking you're delusional. The lame excuse that we don't know other teams draft boards is silly. Schegel was a 5th rounder at a position we didn't need that we reached big time for. The draft is about value and anybody who thinks we got value with that guy is just delusional.
There are just too many false points made in your post, so i'll just stick to the last. No, the draft is NOT about value. It's about drafting players that will make your team a winner. If Schlegel brings success to this team, it doesn't matter whether he was taken in the 1st, 3rd, or 7th round.
That's ridiculous. A loser's mentality. We passed on better players to take a guy that many are projecting to be a backup at a position we seem to already have some talent at. Value is what the draft is all about. Taking the right player at the right spot so you can strengthen your overall roster with as many quality players as you can. Taking Schegel cost us a shot to draft a better player at a position of greater need. I guess some in here are so biased that they can't think clearly. Others like paraquat clearly don't understand football or the draft.
It's a loser's mentality to think that the draft is about taking players that make you a winner? Seems contradicting to me... How can you call a player that has yet to play one snap in the NFL a backup? The least you could do is give the guy chance to prove himself. I'll let the coach decide that one. Do you really think you know more than him about our roster needs? I understand football just fine. If anyone here is biased, it's you. A monkey could come up with a better analysis than you.
NO it is not about value. The draft, draft value, draft grading, is all crap. The ONLY thing that matters is winning games and getting to the SB. It is about getting the players the FO and CS feel are necessary to accomplish this goal, before other teams get those players. Getting "value" is meaningless if you do not win. If you view was correct, the Lions should have won 3 SBs by now, because they got the best "value" by drafing 3 top rated WRs in 3 years. Grading out the draft, and draft "value" is only important to idiots on an internet message board or draftniks employed by ESPN. The only thing that matters is winning. It does not matter where you get the players to do this, FA, UDFA, 7th round, 1st round. It is all irrelevant and meaningless, only the W-L matters. The draft is not the second season of the NFL where people win or lose. It is where the organization builds the team. "Quality" is based on the rankings of the teams and their boards based on needs and their own scouting evalutions. "Quality" is based on if you get the players the team feels will most help them win and the production on the field. Getting "value" is based on their boards and needs. You think they could have gotten a better player at a more important postion. But what you, I, Mel Kiper and his draft values think is irrelevent. The draft is meaningless, you do not win or lose. It is what happens on the field that matters. If after 2 years these players fail, then you can say they "reached" or "failed." But if they produce, or can not say either, because the purpose of the draft is to get players to help you win, not to grade well according to Mel Kiper.
Great point. BTW, good job with your prediction in your signature. You got our OL right on the money!
1) Who said it would be easy to get 7? I can safely say that the vast majority of posters on this board have no illusions of grandeur about this year. 2) Outside of McGahee @ RB, I don't know where Buffalo has better skill positions. QB? Definitely not. WR? I'd say it's a toss up, but there's certainly no discernable difference. And their CS is nothing to write home about. Fairchild did what Martz told him. Perry Fewell as DC? Who? I'll take my chances with Sutton. And Juron isn't exactly a first-ballot HOF coach. 3) Running game will benefit from a better O-line in '06 than the one it exited with in '05. Is Curtis Martin the Curtis Martin of 1998 (or 2004). No, but I'll never bet against Curt. Never. As far as the pass rush, you must be an Abraham apologist. We'll be OK, just like we were when JAbe was nursing his injury at the end of the 2004 season. 4) Like everyone suggests, pan the Schlegel pick when you see on the field he can't tackle anyone and gets beat like a rented mule. Until then, your guess is as good as mine and I have him the Pro Bowl next year starting ahead of Vilma, Thomas, Ray Lewis.
Absurd. Hey...take a look at these draft picks..and see how the "projections" worked out. The picks in () are overall...NOT ROUND. All NFL team busts. First Team QB Ryan Leaf (2) Washington State-San Diego Chargers-1998 RB Blair Thomas (2) Penn State-New York Jets-1990 WR Desmond Howard(4) Michigan-Washington Redskins-1992 TE Ricky Dudley(9) Ohio State-Houston Oilers-1996 OT Tony Mandarich(2) Michigan State-Green Bay Packers-1989 OG Eugene Chung(13) Virginia Tech-New England Patriots-1992 DE Aundray Bruce(1) Auburn-Atlanta Falcons-1988 DT Steve Emtman(1) Washington-Indianapolis Colts-1992 LB Brian Bosworth(2) Oklahoma-Seattle Seahawks-1987 CB Bruce Pickens(3) Nebraska-Atlanta Falcons-1991 S Patrick Bates (12) Texas A&M-Los Angeles Raiders-1993 Second Team QB Heath Schuler (3) Tennessee-Washington Redskins-1994 RB Lawrence Philips (6) Nebraska-St. Louis Rams-1995 WR Michael Westbrook (4) Colorado-Washington Redskins-1995 TE David LaFluer(22) LSU-Dallas Cowboys-1997 OT Antoine Davis(8) Tennessee-Philadelphia Eagles-1991 OG Brian Jozwiak(7) West Virginia-Kansas City Chiefs-1986 DE Andre Wadsworth(3) Florida State-Arizona Cardinals-1998 DT Dimitrius Underwood(29) Michigan State-MinnesotaVikings-1999 LB Percy Snow(13) Michigan State-Kansas City Chiefs-1990 CB Michael Booker(11) Nebraska-Atlanta Flacons-1997 S Shaun Williams(24) UCLA-New York Giants-1998
And yet others are so inflammatory and self-important that they might as well not post anything on the board, because they can't seem to add anything of substance. Stuff that in your paraquat, chief.
According to what mock draft site? Do us all a favor and try and come up with an original thought instead of quoting an "expert" who has no real idea about what's going to happen in the future...
no shit its a two or three year process you retard!!!thats why your negativity towards the draft is moronic.....you and your friend rajens have no idea what youre talking about....its a two or three year process but youve already been killing tangini!!!!!please, just go away dude, youre not football savvy enough to be posting here
Schlegel might seem as a reach but he will surprise people. He will turn into one of the leaders of this defense. Captain at both schools, desire and heart sometimes over rides talent.
