I'm not a bettor so I don't get the math here--but apparently Mayweather bet $815K to win $1.4 million, costing the bookmakers $600K with that pick-6. Btw, who bets that much $$ on football? http://espn.go.com/espn/chalk/story...s-vegas-bet-following-geno-smith-interception Floyd Mayweather Jr. wins big on INT Two last-second interceptions returned for touchdowns by the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals delivered million-dollar blows to Las Vegas sports books, including a $600,000 hit from boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib picked off New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown that covered the point spread in the Broncos' 31-17 win. Mayweather bet $815,000 on the Broncos to beat the Jets by more than 7.5 points. He laid -130 juice and collected $1.4 million from the CG Technology sports book at the M Resort. [+] Enlarge AP Photo/Bill KostrounAqib Talib's late pick-six sealed a victory for the Broncos and a loss for sports books. CG Technology's vice president of race and sports, Jason Simbal, confirmed the bet to ESPN. "Floyd didn't watch the game here," Simbal said, "but he certainly showed up shortly thereafter to cash." Talib's pick-six electrified crowds at the sports books across Vegas and caused six- and seven-figure swings that went against the house. It also caused some damage inside the back office of the MGM Mirage sports book. "The place went absolutely berserk," MGM's vice president of race and sports, Jay Rood, said. "I kicked a hole in the wall. I'll leave it as a reminder of my feelings toward Geno Smith." The Broncos were the most popular bet in Vegas. The Westgate and Aliante sports books told ESPN approximately 95 percent of the bets on the game were on Denver. "It was devastating," Aliante's sports book director, Marc Nelson, said. The bad beats weren't over for the books, though. Arizona defensive back Rashad Johnsonpicked off Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown to cover the spread in a 30-20 win. "Those two interceptions cost us a half-a-million dollars," Rood said. Don't feel too sorry for the books, though. They still won money on an eventful Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys' upset of the Seattle Seahawks, coupled with the San Diego Chargers' failing to cover the spread against the Oakland Raiders, were big winners for the books and helped them overcome the tough beats. "We were in a spot that we would have probably been up a million five after those games," Simbal said. "Instead, we were only up a third of that. Because of the Raiders covering and Cowboys winning, we ended up in pretty good shape today." _
Stokes The point spread on yesterday's game was 9. If Geno didn't throw that pick 6, Denver would have won by 7 only and they wouldn't cover the spread. But since Geno threw that pick 6, they won by 14 and covered the spread for folks like Mayweather who said Denver would win by more than 9.
aww, that's nice. Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. I guess, they call him "money" for a reason. haha
I was more upset that they covered as a result of the pick 6 than anything else. At that point the game was over.
No I understand how spreads work --I don't understand the money line and how you bet $815K to win $1.4 million. I'm used to seeing straight bets with a vig. _
Okay. Got it. I don't know how they calculate either. I hope Yisman can chime in. By the way, I had yesterday's game on of my parlays. That pick helped me win 113 bucks. So Geno made me happy for once.
So he plunked down $815K and walked away with $1.4 mill so he really only won $600K. Deceiving thread title is deceiving. _
Tell me You think San Fransisco will be ahead in 1st quarter tonight? I want to bet all my money on it since payout is good.
No more advice for you after you scolded me in the FF Forum But I have no idea, can't tell anymore what's a sure thing. _
You told me to play Andre Williams and he got zero fantasy points. Ben Tate on the other hand had 19 fantasy points. You told me to pick Foles over Brady and I got only 19 from Foles whereas Brady got 38 points. I lost my fantasy matchup by 13. So if I didn't listen to you, I would have won. No more fantasy advice from you sir
I think if you take other people's fantasy advice you are pretty much defeating the purpose of fantasy football.
Not really. It is just fun and all. I don't mind hearing people's advice on this board. Some weeks I will win and some weeks I will lose.
