Let me start by saying Miami looks much more organized with more overall talent than last year. With that said the game shouldn't have been that close. After the Jets dominated a good portion of the game for some reason the Jets coaching staff decided that with 5:31 left it was time to put the game on ice rather than ice the game. With 5:31 left MIA had a 3rd and 14 on their own 43. The Jets decided to play a prevent style defense and rush 3 instead of coming after Chad. Chad dinked for 7 yards and MIA subsequently was able to go for it on 4th down. They got it and ended up getting a Touchdown later in the drive. Then the Jets got the ball back and ran three straight plays instead of letting one of the great quarterbacks of all time make a play and put the game away. Once they punted they again went back to prevent defense. This is something that has to be addressed the Jets have too many games that they control and then let up before the final whistle. The team and more importantly the coaching need to play through the 4th quarter.

Something to think about, if Nugent didn't get hurt the Jets probably attempt a field goal instead of the going for it on 4th and 13 and getting a Touchdown. That could have meant overtime or a Jet lose. That said the Jets got the Touchdown and went for 2. A few years back didn't Doug Flutie drop kick an extra point for New England? Why couldn't Ben Graham who played Rugby drop kick the ball for the extra point? Just wondering about that one.

On the other side of the coin there were many positives in this game:

The Jets stopped the Dolphins for 49 yards rushing. The same Dolphins running backs usually gash the Jets every year. The Defense also got 4 sacks....how many games was it last year until the Jets even got their first sack? (I think it was something like 5)

Lowery looked very good today and should be making a bid to start at corner next week. Revis also looked solid.

Cotchery and T. Jones looked like they are poised to have a big year.

Oh yeah don't for get Brady got hurt. That could be a very big positive next week, not that I root for injuries.

Any other thoughts or comments are appricated.

    Jetman

Good point about Nugent getting hurt, If he doesn't the Jets dont go for it on 4th and 13 , they don't get the 6, and God knows how it all would have turned out.

I think the Dolphins are a much improved team this year. I expect them to win 5 or 6 games and have 5 or 6 other heart breakers.

I thought the Jets played great overall. I just wish they wouldn't have ran the ball on that late 3rd and 7. A first down wins the game so that was a surprising/disappointing play call.

On a side note: Wouldn't it be nice to see Leon Washington get the ball in the flats more often? Thomas Jones can be a beast of a running back for this Jets team here in 2008 and who knows? Maybe Thomas Jones can be the feature back for another 2-3 years...But I honestly believe that Leon Washington can be the best playmaker this Jets offesne has...This kid is explosive!

I just hope Favre and the Jets offense starts using this guy on screens and outside runs more often, this guy can make some plays!

I think Leon can be huge against NE next week! Huge! I cant see one player keeping up with Leon on NE's front 7, I just cant see it. I love how the Jets use Thomas Jones...Pound that rock, I just wish Leon could get more chances to break the game open

In theory if Nugent doesn't get hurt he makes the FG he missed and makes the FG that was a TD. Either way the score is the same.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but Joey Porter is an asshole, did anyone see him arguing with the Jets before the game and kick the ball of the tee when Nugent was warming up....and we should have beaten them by a wider margin, but a win is a win

Of ALL the NFL games played today, this is what came up on my homepage:

    "Jet's Favre throws for 2 TD's, beats Dolphins 20-14"

GREAT way to start the season!!!

It will be easier next week with Brady out with a injured knee.

I was at the game, and loved every minute of it. Loved to see those dolfans silenced after an entire game of nothing but trash talk.

Oh Yes!! I lost my voice do to the excitement. Although we were greatly outnumbered, more so than in past years, but we Jet fans made our presence felt.

I agree that Leon should get the bal more in the flats because he has a way of making the first guy miss on a regular basis. As a running back though I see him as a good change of pace back who is great on pitch plays, but lacks a little between the tackles.

Also does anyone know the actaul rule about drop kicking an extra point?

Teams have to have an emergency plan if the K or P goes down. Where was that today? It is inexcusable not to have a player ready who can make a PAT or kick off for 30 yards.

With a little practice I could probably do that and I'm a fat slob nobody.
