Jacksonville releases Gabe Davis. Because of offset language in his contract, he could be signed for the vet minimum. The dollar issue probably means several teams may have interest but worth a try?
Outside people obsessing WAY too much on the "name" value of vet WRs....why would anybody actually believe Gabe Davis would be some wide margin upgrade *here*? This ain't the Buffalo offense, and it ain't gonna be Josh Allen throwing him the ball. There is better potential value to chase or be had there imo in keeping the greater opportunity for a young guy to step up and into a #2 type WR role then just adding aging/busted out vet filler to a year 1 rebuild project. You really need to get past this sky is falling outlook that seems stuck in some mindset that it's the min/maxed out floor of our 2025 season that actually matters most here.
The guy has just been paid his bag, absolutely no way on earth is he going to be up for the fight at the Jets.
Part of my interest in him stems from 1) cheap, 2) has had some success 3) he just turned 26 so still in prime, not a washed up 32 year old. Very few of the free agent signings were older except for some one year deals. I would expect a one year vet minimum deal because of his previous contract. Maybe a second year with a little bit guaranteed as a sweetener. Especially if we can send Lazard to the Steelers.
He's a local product from where I live now, so I've always rooted for him. Man, that one playoff game put him on the map ( 3 Tds or was it 4?) but feels like he's done little else since.
Remember that Jets win against Buffalo where a deep Josh Allen pass in the final seconds (that would have won the game) goes through a Bills WRs' hands with Sauce in hot pursuit? Who was the Bills' WR who missed the pass and lost the game?
Why not take a crack at him? I doubt they’ll be some elaborate bidding war. He’s a one trick pony but we need a legit deep threat.
