But I think we are actually good with Clowney as our #2, Stuckey as #3- slot, and Smith as our 4, Marcus Henry 6'4 kid that we drafted as 5th, Wright as ST ace and #6
Here's the nfl DB that I search for these names: http://www.nfl.com/freeagency#playe...r-position/players-list-links-position:pos-wr
I think W. Wright is just a ST ace and will never be lined up as a WR, so I'd take him off (not off the team, just the analysis)... I'd like us to bring in either a veteran WR (Harrison, Toomer) for a year or give a contract to M. Jones... if he behaves he plays... otherwise he is cut come September. In both cases we loose nothing and have some insurance if our youngsters don't pan out.
Your kidding right? Cotchery is a very good WR but in no way a #1. This team needs a stud WR and I expect a trade to be made for one. You can't bring in a guy like Sanchez and give him no one to throw to.
This year Sanchez will not be expected to break the world... wait till next years draft to bring in a stud WR and for this year give our guys a chance.
It'd be nice to land Sanchez's former teammate Damian Williams in the mid-to-late first next season... Dez Bryant and Arrelious Benn might be out of our reach - both look like top ten guys.
Damian Williams*, USC Height: 6-1. Weight: 190. Projected 40 Time: 4.45. Projected Round (2010): Top 20 Pick. Yeah that would be good... next year seems like a good year to get a talented #1 WR... even if we (hopefully) pick in the bottom half of rd 1.
I definitely see Cotchery as a player similar to Mason too. And if Clowney can use that speed to actually beat his defender, coupled with Keller drawing some attention do to mismatches, and then Leon out of the backfield...I think we'll be pretty decent actually. I'm hoping Marcus Henry is gonna get a few opportunities. He's like 6'4" and from the little bit I got to see of him in last preseason, he seems to have some good hands. He actually reminds me of Al Toon cause of his shape and size. If he's even sorta close that, he might be a surprising end zone target. Stuckey seemed to have a knack for making clutch catches too...I don't see why people are so concerned about this position.
I can't figure out why a lot of Jets fans keep mentioning David Clowney ahead of Chansi Stuckey. David Clowney has one catch in his entire career. Chansi Stuckey had 30+ catches, 350+ yards and scored three times in his first season.
There is no doubt we are very thin at WR and could use an upgrade. However, Coles missed a few games last season and we still managed to throw the ball without much of a drop off.
whats the comp for sam hurd from Dallas? Scratch that just saw he signed! May still land Austin, I see he has yet to sign his offer
stuckey is prototypical slot receiver, which would make him the #3 wr on the depth chart. maybe not the #3 option at wr but #3 on the depth chart. clowney is built to be the speed guy in the #1 and #2 wr pair. so if we go with what we have at wr cotch would be the clear number one, who is a possession guy. clowney would be the second receiver and his speed will be used to compliment cotch's route running ability. stuckey will be on the field in 3 wide sets as the quick sure handed chain mover.
I see what you're saying. However, Wes Welker is a typical slot receiver as well. That doesn't mean that in a two-wide set, Welker sits and Moss and Jabar Gaffney take the field. In three wide sets, I would fully expect Stuckey to line up in the slot, but that doesn't mean he's our number three wide receiver. Steve Smith typically lines up in the slot in a three wide set, but that doesn't make him the number three receiver. If all we needed in a second wide receiver was a deep ball threat, Justin McCareins would still be flanking. Look, I like Clowney, and I'd really like to see him get 30 or so targets this season. But as I see it, Cotchery never leaves the field except in goal line situations, Stuckey plays in two-wide sets, Smith and Cotchery line up wide with Stuckey in the slot in 3WR sets, and Clowney sees the field in four wide sets. We should run a SHITLOAD of four wide sets this year and either clear out the backfield and put Keller at TE or four wide with Greene (to block) or Leon (to receive). Just my .02, though. I know most folks are ready to give up on old Bradley, but I think he'll be serviceable this year.
Anyway, of the wide outs listed, I've always liked Drew Bennett. I know he's another tall former Titan, but he could come in as a stop gap for a year. I'll bet the Rams want to hold on to him though.
