Falcons | Abraham OUT for Week 2 Wed, 13 Sep 2006 18:55:42 -0700 Atlanta Falcons DL John Abraham (groin) is out for the Week 2 game and might not return until Week 5. He is listed as questionable on the team's injury report. DL Chauncey Davis will start at left defensive end. I think it's safe to say that we got the better end of the deal... Tangini = genius.
I remember some of my posts when he was traded. I new this was going to happen. I use to call him "Abrahamstring". He won't be right for the rest of the year.
Only time will tell though about how good of a trade it was. It comes down to Abraham for Mangold and a handful of cash. I personally was sick of Abe after the '04 playoff debacle. But again, time will be the best indicator of how good the trade was.
I read that this morning also. That could have been us had we not traded him. Abraham on the bench and Mangini pulling his hair out.
I can see it now right after Abraham's agent told him the Falcon's check had cleared Johnny went lame. Good Riddance
For the last time, he was really hurt in 2004. The Jets PR messed up and didn't report his injury correctly so us fans never understood the seriousness. He had a serious knee injury that limited his speed and if he played it would have made him a shell of what he really was and caused him to be a liability for us. And regarding his statement about not wanting to hurt his career; again, playing on that injury just would have made it worse and not been beneficial to the Jets at all, so of course he should be thinking about his career. Millions of dollars were on the line and whether he played or not wouldn't have been helpful to his team. I'm sick of people bashing Abe for that. Read the Jets Confidential Article about from sometime last fall. It makes all you Abe bashers look stupid.
If you put Joe Klecko's heart in abraham's body you would be talking about a perennial all-pro and future hall of famer.
This is why it was smart not to pay him any longer. The guy is amazing when on the field, which is like half the season. Silly to pay for that kind of productivity.
'04 wasn't the major problem it wa part of the problem. He was hurt just about every year. He missed the final 10 games of his rookie year, he missed our playoff game a Oak in '01, he played hurt and was slowed all '02, he missed big chunks of '03 w/ injuries/suspensions, he missed the stretch drive and playoffs in '04. He's unreliable, a great talent but you can't count on him and therefore doesn't deserve a big, longterm deal.
