Gotta thank user 85inthehall for finding this guy, he writes pretty well. Nice break-up to explain some of the problems we've been having running the ball (and also confirming an impression I got, Slauson sucks at pulling... my god, he's never in the right place... this is why Vlad got a chance). http://sportsgeekguy.wordpress.com/2012/09/25/the-beast-with-two-backs/
good shit. Where was Slausen going on that first play? It also appears to confirm what we all already know that Powell, at least for the most part has better instincts than Greene. My quesyion is.....are our fundamentals simply not there in tehrunning game? If so, what the hell were we doing all training camp long. Did we not declare ourselves a ground n pound team?
Spot on - our O-Line coach needs to address this quick like - its happening time and time again... These are High School mistakes that can not be made at this level... getting old fast
Greene is the only player on the Roster who has rushed the ball and averages less than 4 yards a carry. McKnight - 4.7 YPC on 3 carries Tebow - 4.1 YPC on 8 carries Powell - 4.0 YPC on 22 carries Sanchez - 4.0 YPC on 1 carry Greene - 2.8 YPC on 57 carries
Sample size is way too small to draw any conclusions off of it. For example, one of those 8 carries by Tebow went for 22 yards and skews the stats. BTW, not saying that Greene is a good RB, rather, just taking issue with the flawed use of the stats at this time.
Yep. There was an article that talked about the coaches trying to get him to juke and find seams, but iirc, Greene was quoted as saying that that wasn't his game or something to that effect. That he's a straight ahead runner.
In Powell's defense, the decision to cut left seems a lot clearer in an overhead photograph. In real time there's almost no way that he can accurately judge how quickly the Sam backer will close and how long Epps can hold that block before making a decision. Great running backs can anticipate these things at the beginning of a play, but for a guy like Powell it's basically all instinct at that point.
The stats may not be right. But just watching him hurts my eyes. When do we ever say "wow that was impressive", or see something great. Rarely if ever. I can't even recall the last time he broke a long one. I think his longest run last year was in the 20's lol.
I'm not disagreeing at all Said a while ago that Shonn Greene seems to take the handoff, looks for the biggest pile of players, and then runs directly towards it. Our run blocking basically sucks, which doesn't help, but even if the guys up front were opening holes regularly, Greene either can't, or doesn't want to find them.
So the year-long suspicion is confirmed. 1. Greene sucks. 2. Slauson sucks. Jets will need to replace both OGs AND RT within the next few years.
been hating on slauson for a while now, wanted ducasse to take the spot after he showed he can actually play in the preseason. vlad is a big man, and much more athletic than slauson, so it would make sense to use him in this blocking scheme. he is the type of lineman sparano needs, and hopefully he can get out there in place of slauson and open up some holes for our run game.
if the line opens up the holes, green can get in there and blast through the defensive backfield and break a run off. he is fine in open space, but needs that space at the line. he does not dance around to find the hole, but we knew that, which is why i think at this point they need to start splitting carries evenly wth billal, and eventually move greene to the change of pace/bruiser back that comes in and punishes the tired defenders.
