Offense - Playcalling is still abit conservative in terms of downfield passing. - Like the previous preseason game, offense can't finish off drives and ultimately finds a way to defeat itself. - Ramsey showing why he was the odd man out in Washington. Holds on to the ball much too long. Bollinger impresses me more than he does. He can turn something negative into a positive with his scrambling ability. - Blaylock got off some good runs today thanks to solid blocking. D'Brick has played an amazing game, which was highlighted by his downfield block on that reverse play for a TD. - That previously mentioned reverse play and Leon Washington's return for a TD were absolutely electric. Suddenly, this team has a pair of playmakers. Defense - I have been anti-Bryan Thomas since the day he was drafted, but he's definetly impressed me today. He had like 3 solid pressures, including a sack. His run defense, like usual, has been sound as well. - Vilma has disappeared in these 2 preseason games. Barton, however, has been very effective when in the game. Vilma hasn't been able to get off blockers in the first game, but I haven't really payed attention to him today. - I like the aggressive blitzing by the defense. Although they got burned by a few plays, they also managed to pick up an interception and sack due to it. - The secondary looked pretty poor, but it could easily be accredited to Campbell's sharp passing. He looked damn good. ST - Ben Graham rules n' all...but, just what the hell was he doing before? - I'm glad the Jets kept Westhoff. The guy has done wonders with the special teams unit.
thanks for the thoughts. Those of us that aren't watching (can't get) the game appreciate the insight.
Thanks for a run down Jetaholic. I wouldnt be too concerned about the secondary...most secondaries DO look poor in the preseason(aside from good tackles against the run and interceptions) b/c coverages are very vanilla and it's easy for a QB to do damage w/. DC's dont like to reveal any special coverage schemes and such that might be used in a regular season game.
I agree with your point on Ramsey. Exactly why I said earlier in camp that if Chad couldn't go, we'd better start Bolly. Neither are great passers, but Bollinger can move.
-Patrick Ramsey held onto the ball too long -Leon Washington and Brad Smith both looked Ultra fast on their long TD's -Brooks looked like he was comfortable playing. -Defense looks really strong at this point and will clearly be our strength barring major injuries -Brick locked down his men pretty well -Cedric Houston didn't see the field -Bryan Thomas was the first half stand out player
I thought it looked pretty cool what Graham was doing, the roll out punt might have some promise, maybe we can do an option play in close yardage situations where Graham can either punt or keep running if he is open to get the first down.
I'd just like to mention that I'm extremely impressed with D'Brickashaw. He's got outstanding quickness and made a great block downfield on the Smith TD. This guy looks like a keeper.
I thought Ramsey played well, he led the Jets to a score and didn't throw a int. It seemed like Washington was blitzing on every pass play.
We better hope that Clemens gets up to speed real quick. I thought Chad had the slowest release in football until I got a chance to watch Ramsey. Campbell is the most impressive QB I've seen play this year. Big strong and can throw the ball down the field with velocity with guys hanging on him.
Offence: Im not sold on Ramsey at all. Too often when he holds on to the ball he then runs into the oncoming rush instead of away from it. Bollinger looks far more servicable as a backup to pennington than Ramsey. He gives up options and can make plays. The running game has picked up this week, we are running it up the pipe and getting some success against a decent redskins defence. Would like to see some more downfield passing going on to make the Redskins D a little more honest. But with Ramsey dithering and Bollinger looking a little shackled by the play calling its all been short stuff. Nice reverse for the TD and brad smith showing he can be a playmaker. Blaylock looking better but still not a game breaker. Looking forward to seeing Houston in the 2nd half. Defence: Some nice pressuer this week from the edge and plays have been closed down better. We are not looking like there is a hole in the middle of our D this week for the rushers to come on through. Thomas looking good from the OLB position, he has impressed me tonight and looks good on the blitz. Secondary is a worry but I hope we are playing some mild coverage to see what the players can do. Where is Vilma? he is not getting to play much at all. Special Teams: Amazing return speed from Washington. Miller with a nice opening return. Intersting innovation with the punt and early onside kick.
Only 32 yards passing - still no sign of adequate QB play. Let's just hope the rollout punt was Graham's idea, okay? There's no way that that will lead to anything other than what it did - illegal men downfield. D and special teams look pretty good.
No kiddin'. He seems like the real deal. Offensive linemen aren't exactly known to make immediate impact (especially the LT position), but D'Brick is really coming on strong. He's been manhandling his assignments very consistently. I only recall him getting fooled once against Simeon Rice last week, which didn't result in a sack. We'll have an even better idea of him once he plays Jason Taylor, but for now, I'm loving the pick.
How is Bollinger a better option than Ramsey? We scored more points with Ramsey. I think he played quite well today. He showed decent escapability and made good decisions. He also can take a hit and doesn't fumble like Penny.
We scored more points with Ramsey on a TD return and a trick play- that has little to do with the skill of the QB (except for Ramsey's block). I'm not a big fan of Bollywood, but he was pretty good today.
Well, both seem to be decent backups, but Bollinger just makes things happen more than Ramsey does. Ramsey may have Bollinger beat in terms of arm strength, but currently, this offense seems to focus more on dink and dunks, which suits Bollinger's strengths more. Ramsey holds on to the ball much too long and needs to learn to get rid of it before taking the sack. Brooks manages to turn those would be sacks into +5 yards with his scrambling ability. That's the main reason why I like him more. With that said, I still have Penny and Clemens above them on the depth chart.
Well, he just made good use of his time with that TD to Newhouse. That was a great play by Clemens. I tell ya, that kid has shown some good composure in these 2 preseason games. He bought time by scrambling to the outside, kept his head up and looking for his WRs, then makes a smart pass right on target for the TD.
