Interesting. I'm sure that this depth chart is for the HOF game and probably will change before preseason starts. Turner is the 1st string LT, with Becton backing him up. It's Mitchell, Cajuste and then Warren at RT. At C, it's McGovern, Tippman and Colon (not Schweitzer). That's surprising as Schweitzer has been part of the C competition and Saleh has praised him, and Colon has never been mentioned at all. Schweitzer is backing up Tomlinson.
Tony Adams has had some nice buzz. I wonder how comfortable they are with Sherwood, Mosley was talking him up when they reported to camp.
The depth chart reveals how irritating it is to take Will McDonald. I know it’s early but 3rd string defensive end, while our starting slot and wideouts are Allen Lazard and Corey Davis with two guys I’ve never heard of backing them up. Don’t think there was much reason to trade Elijah Moore either. I think the lack of explosiveness might bite us.
Trading Moore was the wrong move. Kid made a mistake, but his contract was cheap af for what he delivers. Hopefully Hardman is used properly.
Yeah it’s interesting…I’ll never complain about taking a pass rusher high in the draft…we send them in waves, and they impact the game the most on D…so I’m good with the pick honestly. I’ve been hearing good things about JJ in camp and so that’s great too. That being said, it’s not a good look trading out both 2nd round receivers….but to be fair, Moore was more hype and potential than he was production…we expected a lot from him and he never really delivered. I too thought he should have been kept, but water under the bridge now. I’m more concerned with the OT position than the WR group though…yes I think we could use more firepower at WR, but if Becton doesn’t deliver, I think it’ll be a bit of a tough go at OT
Sherwood makes me a little nervous, but linebacker has been pretty phased out in this scheme minus Mosley.
I have to think this is a chart specifically to motivate/reward certain guys on the team, because I can’t imagine this is how they really want to roll out week 1.
Yeah I mean if we were keeping LaFleur and he said he absolutely cannot work with Moore, it’s one thing. The organization would’ve then made a decision one way or the other. But they got rid of LaFleur. Not sure why they couldn’t have tried giving Moore a fresh start with a new OC. As far as tackle is concerned, it’s definitely more concerning than receiver because bad receiver play is generally less noticeable than bad tackle play. Bad tackle play wrecks a game, bad receiver play results in a lot of dink and dunking but there are still chances to move the ball. I also forgot they just let George Fant walk out the door for only $4 million. Not like he was a All-Pro but he’s a starting tackle. We did the same thing with Morgan Moses a year earlier too.
He's had a good camp and the Jets are very high on him, so he must be doing something right. Evidently Hamsah Nasirildeen has been looking pretty good this TC because he's backing up Sherwood. Either that, or it's a matter of the rookie LBs haven't learned the scheme yet or aren't looking very good. It will be interesting to see how many LBs they keep. My guess is only 5, whereas ideally it would be 6.
I think it's just for the HOF game on Thursday. Saleh has said that no starter will play in the game, which is interesting because he said that Becton will get some work in the game, but be on a pitch count. There's no way that Turner will be the starting LT week 1. If so, the Jets will be in big trouble. The Jets are very high on Adams at FS, and he's had a great TC so far. Amos doesn't know the scheme yet.
I’m just going to keep going back to this because the Jets whole philosophy is to try to mimic what the 49ers did by continually taking pass rusher after pass rusher and the whole “keep them fresh” thing. But when you look at it, the franchise took off when they got the best pass rusher in the league. All the peripheral parts started playing better when he got there and their production fell off a cliff when he was out in 2020. Hence why quantity over quality doesn’t always make sense with pass rushers.
Didn’t realize they got Javelin Guidry back. Really good speed. I like him as depth piece at slot as well as specials.
My 53 man roster prediction QB (2) Aaron Rodgers Zach Wilson RB (4) Breece Hall Michael Carter Izzy Abanikanda Zonovan Knight FB (1) Nick Bawden WR (6) Garrett Wilson Corey Davis Allen Lazard Mecole Hardman Randall Cobb Malik Taylor TE (4) CJ Uzomah Tyler Conklin Jeremy Ruckert Zach Kuntz OL (9) Alijah Vera-Tuker Connor McGovern Laken Tomlinson Duane Brown Mechki Becton Max Mitchell Wes Schweitzer Joe Tippmann Billy Turner DL (10) Quinnen Williams Carl Lawson Al Woods John Franklin-Myers Jermaine Johnson Will McDonald Micheal Clemons Bryce Huff Solomon Thomas Quinton Jefferson LB (5) CJ Mosley Quincy Williams Jamien Sherwood Zaire Barnes Chazz Surratt S (4) Jordan Whitehead Tony Adams Adrian Amos Ashtyn Davis CB (5) Sauce Gardner DJ Reed Michael Carter II Jarrick Bernard-Converse Justin Hardee (ST) ST (3) Greg Zeurlein (K) Thomas Morstead (P) Thomas Hennessey (LS) NOTE: Brandin Echols suspended Week 1 won't count towards 53 man roster. Notes: Historically we know saleh loves to stack up DL. Last season there were 11 and there's even more depth there now, so I could see that changing. The wildcard is Chazz Surratt who we know Saleh loves. It doesn't mean he's automatic to make the roster but it's not nothing. Chazz also is currently injured so that could play a factor in him making the team. I would rather Brownlee make the team than Malik Taylor but I think Taylor has the inside track due to his history with Hackett/Rodgers and recent performance. I just think Brownlee is better though. I would roll with 3 safeties personally, but historically Saleh has held more. Bernard-Converse is a hybrid (i believe) so maybe they would cut Davis. Davis has been around a while without doing much though, so maybe the staff just love him. I do think the jets keep Bawden as FB, i think Saleh loves having a FB. I think it's a waste of a spot but I think it's there. Carrying 2 QBs is another wildcard because we carried 3 last year, I think Hackett's teams historically have kept 3 and we know they love Boyle. Despite this, I am hoping the Jets see the value in having another spot elsewhere instead of a QB that we never plan on playing and could probably bring up at anytime if we needed. I DO think we will pickup several cut day casualties so I'm expecting this to change a bit. My guess is that we could see a different lineman instead of Billy Turner or Becton if he can't hold up or is traded.
I agree with most of this! Nice job. Would def only go with 2 QBs and with 3 safety’s Davis doesn’t deserve to be on this team much less the NFL he’s done nothing. Keep a CB that can be a hybrid and I’m good with Whitehead, Amos and T Adams.
Fun Fact - Ashton Davis has more interceptions playing safety for the Jets than Jamal Adams. In all seriousness though, I think he gets too much hate in this board for what he is, a backup safety.
I agree. he's a backup safety cause he's rough on run defense but he's really good when he gets to play a zone centerfield role. he's come up with some huge INTs in the clutch for us just reading the QB and breaking on balls
